Indeed, it is now time to fight to defend our privacy, and I'm afraid not so many people will protest to the systematic surveillance that's threatening us because of the new moves from EU parliament that are slowly undermining our privacy under disguise:

Currently providers are only "authorized" to perform the said surveillance, but it seems there are already plans to render such surveillance mandatory, legally binding the hands of the chat providers and definitively taking away our right to having safe, private conversation !

Well, as a privacy minded person and as a cryptographer, I wouldn't let such laws prevent me from having private conversations even if I need to develop a new "illegal" software to do so! Just like export regulations didn't prevent crypto research, these are bound to fail.

I cannot fathom how disconnected from reality and from the people living under their laws the EU decision makers are there, but seeing such idiotic laws being voted isn't helping me trusting they have the "good" of society or anyone in mind when they voted them!

I hope this whole #chatcontrol thing will face the resistance it deserves sooner rather than later, and people won't take the simplistic "it's to prevent crime" excuse as more than the lame pretext it is. Everyone deserves privacy, not just some, not under certain circumstances.

That's a hot take from my part, but I have no doubts, seeing the cypherpunk history that we will have solutions ensuring privacy if we need them. And I do believe that such laws are only going to hurt the lawmakers and the investigators in the end, decreasing their SNR... n/n
