Someone posted the other day asking the question - what is the word for the pandemic induced sheer exhaustion that everyone is feeling right now? I thought a lot about it, and can't find the original post to answer, but I think the answer is...
Grief.
Grief is sneaky. It's exhaustion, it's mood swings, it's wondering what life is all for, it's random tears and even more random laughs. It's a bit like diarrhoea in the way it comes and goes. One minute you're okay, the next you're really not.

And we all have so. much. to. grieve. Our jobs, our working relationships, the dreams we had for the future, if we have a future, our kids lives. Grief makes you wonder if everything is ever going to be okay again. You feel like you're in a dinghy in a tusnami.
That stormy ocean rolls you over and over, gives you a few moments of respite for air, then rolls you again. You wonder if it's ever going to stop, or if this is your forever. There was a time when I lost 5 family members to cancer over 8 years.
I lost the meaning of life in it's entirety. I was exhausted. I wondered how I would get through each day. Everything I thought I knew to be true, wasn't. A pandemic is not so dissimilar.
It's important to know something about grief though. Right when you truly believe you are in that bleak desert forever, the sun rises. Whether you like it or not, the sun rises, and it has always risen for us. The only thing you can count on in life, is things changing.
Don't despair fellow pandemic travellers. We will come through this grief into a new place, not the one we knew before, but there will be peace and freedom there too. Hang on. 🙏
