This whole piece makes some White House reporters seem biased in various concerning ways
There's a thirst for chaos and drama and a lack of any real interest in policy detail. Trump would have been exciting to cover if all you cared about was the former. But you should really also care about the latter. Also a fair amount of ageism.
Like, why is a white house reporter saying this, even off the record?
If I were a reporter, and I were covering a figure, I would not express these kinds of speculations about the figure to others in a public forum. It just seems like a failure to do the job.
Anyway, the infrastructure bills could be transformative, as other plans from the Biden admin could be. Maybe the press should try to find an interesting angle to these things that could actually have an impact on people's lives?

There's been some chatter about whether Hunter Biden writing a book & selling art violates ethics rules/norms. Here are emails between the White House & the Office of Government Ethics (OGE) pertaining to Ivanka Trump's publication of a book while she was a WH employee ImageImageImage
The OGE seemed primarily concerned that:
-Ivanka made the deal before employment at the WH
-That she should *not* promote the book as a WH employee & that she should make a public statement saying why
-That she should use a scripted response when asked to avoid promotion
In one case the OGE expressed concern when VOA network promoted the book. They checked with the White House & were reassured when told Ivanka knew nothing about the promotion. Image

Was beating children for speaking their Native languages also part of the soul-saving process, or was that just limited to all of the murder and negligent homicide? theamericanconservative.com/articles/the-m…
Quick fact-check, here, as I try to suppress my nausea:
In 2021, I believe 3 sites have been discovered. At 1, 215 bodies of *children* have been found. At the 2 others, 751 & 182 bodies have been found, respectively, & could be a mixture of both children and adults.
Previously, a report in 2015 identified 3,200 Native children who had died at "residential schools" (concentration camps). reuters.com/world/americas…

What can the U.S. do about this? Can Congress act? Can the U.S. government buy the doses and sell them at cost to other countries?
Even if you do not have humanitarian impulses, you should be deeply invested in vaccinating the whole world. Every person is a possible vector for a new mutation. New mutations can translate into increased transmissibility, mortality, or, worst case: vaccine resistance
Data are still being collected on the new Lambda variant, but preliminary reports suggest it could be more deadly, more transmissible, &/or more resistant to vaccines. 1st case was noted in Peru in 12/20. It now accounts for 80% of cases in Peru & has spread to 30 countries

People don't have sex at pride. I believe that would be illegal in most if not all places. If it's ever happened, it would be an outlier event. Focussing on outlier events as representative of a whole is a typical trick of cultural conservatives & sloppy thinkers more generally
Also confounding LGBTQ expressions of body + sexual positivity w/ public sex is another tactic of cultural conservatism.

If you want military members to be able to leave their bases in foreign countries, they will need to be vaccinated. Many countries w/ bases already have travel restrictions that require vaccination & others will follow suit.
Vaccines protect military members &, importantly, protect local communities. Many vaccines are already required. For example, here is a list for Africa Command. Most of these overlap for all Commands, tho some require extra vaccinations, like Japanese encephalitis
I've gotten the impression that the GOP likes to argue that countries universally welcome the US military. Regardless of how true that currently is, it certainly won't be the case if they become vectors of a disease that causes mass death, cripples hospitals, & crashes economies

I wrote about George Packer's "4 Americas" & how it erases Black Americans & their diversity. White Americans get to be patriots or "social justice warriors," whereas Black Americans have no patriotic space of their own alternet.org/2021/06/four-a…
To be clear, I assign no positive/negative value to patriotism, though I do assign negative values to how it is often employed in white American culture. I am not, myself, patriotic.
I do not think--nor would it be my place to think--there is greater value in Black American patriotism than in any other estimation of the U.S., either neutral or negative

I *do* think it is reprehensible that Black American patriotism is erased from our national narrative
