Just went through & figured out the whole Fast and Furious timeline.
It makes no sense, but was fun.
F9 canonically takes place in either 2013 or 2017.
There's some discrepancies but most evidence in the later movies points towards the official canon being 2017. #F9#Family
Fast and Furious Facts:
Letty is canonically ~10 years younger than the rest of the crew. This doesn't make sense given some dialog, but her grave marker from 4 and 7 both show this.
2 Facts 2 Furious: #F9#spoilers (light spoiler)
Elle is 11 some time after Fast & Furious 6, but appears to be 20-something just 6 years later in F9 (she somehow ages much quicker than Jack O'Conner or Brian Marcos Toretto - but I'll get back to lil Brian)
The Fast and the Furious: Facts Drift:
If you canonize Better Luck Tomorrow's portrayal of Han, then he's actually a year younger than Letty.
Facts & Furious:
Between 4 and 5 they were either on the run for 1 year or 5 years. With the more recent canon pointing towards just 1 year, which makes more sense.
Facts Five:
The most obvious discrepancy is that in #F9, Lucas Black's character is canonically about 20 years old. Oof. He had a hard 3 years after high school.
Fast & Fact-ious 6:
Baby Brian. Elena got preggo at the start of 6 in 2011 & gave birth before we see her clearly not pregnant in the start of F7 which, based on Jack O'Conner, is ~3 years later. But in F8, immediately after F7, Brian is an infant, maaaybe 1 at most.
Facts 7:
Mia and Brian O'Conner have a baby girl after F8. We haven't seen her but I'm going to guess based on the other child growth pace that she looks to be 15 by now & is probably named Letty since every baby is named after another character (Brian, Nico, Jack).
Today marks 10 years since I first became a professional game dev.
10 years ago I started my internship at LucasArts working on Star Wars: 1313, just a few days before it was revealed to the world.
In the decade since I've been blessed enough to live out my game dev dreams. 1/8
I've been briefed on and worked on consoles before they were announced, I've been to E3 and GDC multiple times and had demoes I worked on appear on stage in front of thousands in person and many more streaming. 2/8
I've worked on beloved and long lasting franchises like Tomb Raider and Ratchet & Clank. I've worked on my personal top fandoms of Star Wars and Marvel comics. I've been given free consoles and free games a plenty. I've greeted George Lucas, been to Skywalker Ranch, 3/8
Okay. It's that time again.
So I'm testing something. Before this year I hadn't read the books & imo the theatrical releases are better/more enjoyable to watch. Well now I've read the books & I want to give the extended editions another chance.
I'll let you know what I think.
I will admit, this isn't a true test because I don't have anyone watching with me to tell me about how Viggo broke his toe when he kicked that helmet...
I will say both film versions are fucking momentous feats. This is an insanely difficult story to translate across media and they did an absurdly good job. I know this isn't a hot take. I just... damn... I have a new appreciation. This is insanely masterful storytelling.
