#Unrest We flew over Alex, Hillbrow, the JHB CBD, Soweto and Diepsloot from 12pm to 2pm. @eNCA
Little visibility of security forces on the ground in these areas when we flew. In Tembisa was there was NO policing.
JHB CBD and Hillbrow is quite. Streets are almost deserted.
Soweto: streets are quite except for the hotspots. Maponya Mall has been sealed off.
Jabulani Mall: Lots of damage. Debri all over. Groups of people gathering outside. Some police visibility.
The Engen opposite the Jabulani Mall has also been attacked. A fuel tanker was set on fire. The tanker is intact but the horse damaged.
We witnessed how a group of rioters were trying to break into an ATM.
Police helicopter hovering low. Group disperse and then return.
Diepsloot: Streets quite. The mall along the R511 has been sealed off.
Damage at Bambanani Mall. Hardware store gutted. Mall sealed off. Smoke still billowing.
A few hundred meters from the mall, police were busy with an operation. It is believed they were retrieving stolen goods.
At another mall about 2km away in Tembisa, building also on fire. Roads blockaded with burning tyres. Hundreds gathered. Looting order of the day. No police.
