"John how could you say Trump and the GOP are a greater threat to America than 9/11 was?". Well, because I know what I'm talking about. But I realize that doesn't do much for the critically stupid, so let's address that and try to jolt those brain cells to life.
There is absolutely no doubt whatsoever that 9/11 was the worst terrorist attack in modern American, and indeed world, history. Before that, the worst was the Cinema Rex fire in Tehran, Iran in 1978 in which 422 people were killed.
But anyone trying to conflate the death toll of a singular act of terrorism with a broader threat to American democracy has literally no idea what they're talking about. Quite simply, AQ was
never
ever
EVER
going to topple American democracy. Ever.
It was never going to happen. Not only would that have been impossible, it wasn't the goal. In layman's terms, Bin Laden was mad about US support for Israel, our presence in Saudi Arabia, and pro-American governments in the Middle East.
The driving factor behind 9/11 was Bin Laden's desire to drive America into a war of attrition in which public support for our presence in the Mideast would collapse, resulting in withdrawal of US forces throughout the ME. It had nothing to do with toppling American democracy.
By comparison, sure. If you're just looking at casualty numbers of course 9/11 is worse. But look at the effect it, Trump and the GOP have had on our democratic institutions. It's the first time in American history our transfer of power wasn't peaceful.
AQ never breached the nucleus of our legislative branch. But Trump supporters did, Trump supporters with the intent to halt the lawful certification of our 2020 electoral votes. These people were carrying flexcuffs and stringing up nooses outside.
And while they were literal steps away from our legislators, the sitting US president was on the phone with state lawmakers and election officials, urging them to simply change the results and declare him the winner. A literal handful of principled people saved our democracy.
As it stands right now the GOP is enacting voter suppression laws at the state level, stripping power from state Republican lawmakers critical of Trump, attempting to install pro-Trump politicians in key election positions, and pushing the false idea that Trump won.
All the while the most anti-democratic President in American history has the broad support of the vast majority of his base, most of the politicians in his party, and the fear of those few who don't support him but won't dare oppose him.
Across the country, militias like the Oathkeepers and Three Percenters and fascist groups like the Proud Boys are openly declaring their willingness to engage in civil war in support of the former president being reinstalled.
Currently only 16% of Americans believe our democracy is healthy. 45% think Democracy isn't functioning properly. Over half of Republican voters believe Trump is the legit POTUS, and over half believe he will be reinstated. 65% of them no longer believe in our election system.
American democracy is in the greatest peril we've seen since the first Civil War. I say "first" because a second isn't just a possibility, it's becoming more and more likely. Or at the very least, widespread violence and civil strife.
So, yeah. They pose a far greater threat to America than AQ ever did. One of those two groups actually has a shot at ripping the country to shreds, and it isn't AQ. Never was.
Now, as I guessed I can see Sophia Narwitz sent you here. She's as predictable and outrage-hungry as she is stupid. I'll never understand her obsession with me. My recommendation to you is: decouple yourself from that utter disaster and actually apply some critical thinking, kid.

Starting to think this guy might need to be on some sort of watchlist.
Like, dude. We laugh, but this shit is chilling. My man here is practically outright stating his desire to slaughter people and see a fascist in power. This is Nazi Germany shit.
Now imagine how many others think like him that we don’t know about.
So, let's examine this through the lens of someone who actually knows what he's talking about. I've spoken at length before about terrorism and what it is/isn't. Not surprising that someone from The Blaze wouldn't know. So, let's go!
When we talk about "terrorism" we aren't talking about tossing a brick into a laundromat or punching someone. Terrorism encompasses things like kidnapping, hijackings, executions, hostage-taking, mass casualty events, etc to instill....y'know....terror.
While there isn't one globally-accepted definition of the word "terrorism", it's roundly accepted that it involves everything I just mentioned. Remember that, because we'll come back to it.
So, putting on my COIN hat for a moment, this is how I see the buildup to the next Trump insurrection happening. Yeah, it's hypothetical and no, it may not happen. But it's already happened once; to think with certainty it won't again is shortsighted and foolish.
If I had to wager a guess: Trump smells an indictment coming. That's the reason we're hearing all this "reinstatement" stuff suddenly. He knows or strongly suspects it's coming soon, and he thinks he can twist it and use it as a means to either protect himself or seize power.
He's going to use that indictment as "proof the Deep State is trying to prevent my reinstatement in August" or "they're trying to take your vote away" or "they're afraid of the truth" or something similar. "THIS is the only way the Socialists know they can stop us!".
(BTW this comes from a nearly twenty-year career in Counterinsurgency theory and practice, both in training our allies and practical application in two theaters of war, so I'm not just whistling dixie out of my ass)
An insurgency is a violent uprising by unlawful combatants against a constituted government, with the aim of overthrowing/supplanting that government. But wait, what is a LAWFUL combatant? Article IV of the Geneva Convention defines lawful combatants by four criteria:
