I dunno, perhaps ditching face masks and reopening clubs and bars three weeks before the school holidays wasn't the best decision. Airports will be crowded and many countries are expected to reassess the risk status of the Netherlands and change entry requirements. Expect chaos.

The most egregious example of stupidity: "dansen met janssen": youngsters were invited to get a one-dose J&J vaccine, issued a vaccination certificate on the spot and told they could go dancing right away; the vaccine takes 4 weeks to become effective nrc.nl/nieuws/2021/07…

In the great piece by @Markla94 and @pimvandendool linked above, they also write that the surge in infections is happening while the government discontinued contracts for contact-tracing & testers on temporary contracts have been laid off because infections in june were so low.

It is also my experience that most people in testing centres were students, probably on fixed-term, part-time contracts with some basic training. High turnover expected.

A spokesperson of the ministry of health literally said that you were protected right away after getting the vaccine and you didn't need to wait to be protected, which was a lie.
