Katie Ledecky leaves some of the most experienced people in swimming grasping for the secret to her dominance.

Genetics? An iron will? Nature versus nurture? God?

What makes Katie Ledecky so good?

latimes.com/sports/olympic…
. @katieledecky holds the world records in the 400-, 800-, and 1,500-meter freestyles... and she's got the next fastest times for each race too.

Katie Ledecky's dominance comes, in part, from her unusual intuition about what will happen in the water.

Her analytical training style and "obsessive attention to detail" help her understand races remarkably well and even predict other swimmers' times correctly. Image

There is growing scrutiny over a 17-million-gallon sewage spill into the Santa Monica Bay, with many asking how the spill occurred and why it took so long to alert the public.

Here is a breakdown of what we know — and what we don’t:
latimes.com/california/sto… Image
Authorities are still investigating how the spill happened.

The emergency discharge at Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant in Playa del Rey began Sunday evening and ended around 4:30 a.m. Monday.

latimes.com/california/sto…
The discharge occurred after construction materials clogged the filtering screens.

Crews tried replacing the screens and diverting water but were forced to discharge the sewage through a 1-mile pipe that ends 50 feet underwater.
