Just discovered a 2018 @CDCgov report regarding children and brain injuries & some @biaamerica statistics.

From this, I'm absolutely convinced WE MUST MANDATE ALL KIDS 3-17 WEAR HELMETS AT ALL TIMES (exceptions noted later).

First, the cold hard facts...

1/10
The Brain Injury Association reports that:

-Brain injury is the leading cause of disability & death for <18 in U.S.
-For <14, brain injury results in an estimated 2,685 deaths, 37,000 hospitalizations per year.

That's over 10X Covid deaths!

CDC report goes into more detail. TBIs (traumatic brain injuries) are:

-Sexist
-Ageist
-Racist
-Classist

This screenshot is a summary, but let's look at each of these in detail.

3/10
cdc.gov/nchs/products/…
In this chart, we can clearly see TBIs are ageist by impacting 15-17 year old kids much more than any other age group. Boys are clearly impacted way more than girls. Why are TBIs sexist?

Btw, if we don't helmet all kids, we should at least helmet boys 6+ and girls 12+.

4/10
Here, we see how shockingly racist TBIs are.

White children were almost twice as likely to have had a significant head injury compared with other non-Hispanic racial groups.

But there's more...

5/10
Look how staggering the difference is between white girls and non-white girls.

Are the brains of white girls ages 3-17 that much more fragile than girls of all other races? Seriously, what is going on here? Regardless, we definitely must helmet all white girls ages 3-17.

6/10
Now onto the education of parents. TBIs apparently don't like the kids of parents with college degrees.

Brains prone to higher-ed create brains prone to TBIs? And what is up with the disparity with girls again? Most of this classist behavior of TBIs is aimed at girls.

7/10
Mandating kids wear helmets indefinitely is necessary to save lives and prevent serious injury. Surely, it may impact their ability to live life, but it will help them stay alive. Probably OK to exempt for showering and sleeping (unless sleeping on the top bunk).

8/10
Why can't we only helmet kids in high-risk categories or when participating in high-risk activities?

Well, we don't want to worry about bullying. Also, it will be too hard for teachers, caregivers and other adults to police. It's easier if we mandate all kids all the time.

9/10
Satirical thread but serious question:

With vaccines available to 12+, and pretending masking kids at school was modestly effective, please explain why masking kids indefinitely makes sense but helmeting kids indefinitely does not? TBIs are much worse than Covid for kids.

10/10

You know, mask choice is a much easier solution.🧵

Yes, our mask mandate next school year is the most stringent.
Interesting quote from Newsom here.

Newly released video of a @SanMarcosUSD HS teacher going off on students and their parents over distance learning and other issues. Originally posted to FB. Apparently this is a common occurrence.
Attorney for @SanMarcosUSD argued Thurs in court the district was negotiating to expand in-person instruction. Instead, union & district agreed to not change, enforcing 6 ft spacing limiting in-person time. CDC & CDPH allow 3 ft. On Fri, union posts members celebrating at 0 ft.
This same teacher is celebrating the half-baked hybrid plan as providing “small class instruction.” Is that the end game? Cut educational minutes to a fraction of what they were before in the name of “smaller class sizes?”

BATTLE LINES HAVE BEEN DRAWN!

@UTLAnow announces they will be bargaining for hybrid for Fall 2021.

It appears they'll be negotiating for more money amongst other things. Be prepared for another standoff this summer with our kids as hostages.
Also, @UTLAnow suddenly doesn't trust the CDC. "The CDC revised guidance of only needing 3 ft. of space was rash and based on a flawed study."

Let's be real, this standoff was never really about safety or science.
Also, @UTLAnow and @NEAToday are trying to cancel accountably of their failed distance learning polices.

I’ve been inundated with reports of school districts spending state and federal Covid relief money on substantial one-time bonuses to teachers and administrators instead of spending them on getting kids back in classrooms or to curb learning loss.

This thread will document them.
First, it’s fitting to start with what the @NEAToday pres. admitted Friday night.

In her words, the light at the end of the tunnel is... the 1.9T fed aid package giving 170B to schools.

You’d think this money would be spent on PPE, supplies, and programs for kids. Not quite...
This is the craziest one I’ve seen so far, $6K proposed bonus!

There absolutely is a conflict of interest. The unknown is if Dr. Bardach’s husband’s company has or will benefit from the Safe Schools Team’s decisions. Action is needed to ensure there’s no abuse of power. sandiegouniontribune.com/news/education…
After rumblings of the potential COI started, Minerva began scrubbing their website referencing high-school. How is that not an admission of a conflict interest?

First image was archived by wayback on 3/6. The high-school reference is now gone. Second image is from today. ImageImage

BREAKING: @BerkeleyUnified union pres. Matt Meyer who has led efforts keeping Berkeley schools closed nearly a year because it’s “unsafe” caught dropping daughter off at private in-person school. Why is it safe for him but not the rest of BUSD families??? Credit @GuerillaMomz
1/3
Here is the YouTube video. One of the union demands before a return to the classroom was every teacher vaccinated. How long has Matt Meyer’s daughter been attending in-person private school?
2/3
For what it’s worth, here is Matt Meyer’s Facebook profile picture wearing the same shirt. It reads “Keep Teachers in Berkeley.” Sadly, it says nothing about keeping families in Berkeley.
