Daniel Rodriguez’s court hearing is now underway. The Capitol defendant, a regular at pro-Trump protests in California before the Capitol attack, was filmed electroshocking D.C. Police Officer Mike Fanone when he Fanone was seized by the mob on 1/6. #TaserPrick #SeditionHunters
Judge Amy Berman Jackson notes that it “took awhile” to get Rodriguez to D.C. after his arrest in late March, but he got here on June 10. huffpost.com/entry/daniel-j…
Here’s our first story on Daniel Rodriguez, a month before his arrest: huffpost.com/entry/fanone-t…
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kimberly Paschall says she learned today that there's at least 250 terabytes of data across all Jan. 6 cases.

Paschall says DOJ has turned over more than 100 body worn camera videos to the defense.
Paschall tells Judge Amy Berman Jackson she’s not sure at this time whether a plea offer will be extended, but will have those discussions. Jackson notes that plea offers are normally extended in even extremely serious cases. Paschall reaffirms she’ll try to get an answer.
One of Rodriguez’s federal public defenders, based in Las Vegas, says they want to set a trial date. Says Rodriguez is anxious to go to trial quickly because he’s being held in custody.

Judge Jackson notes there’s no motion before her for a bond review.
Judge Amy Berman Jackson says the Daniel Rodriguez case needs priority. Next status conference will be set for the end of August. If there’s no plea offer and no interest in a plea, they’ll start talking about scheduling a trial.
An August 31 status hearing is on the books. Afternoon hearing (because federal public defenders are in Nevada).
Federal public defender Paul Riddle notes that Rodriguez is being held about two hours away from D.C. (and not in D.C. jail, like many Jan. 6 defendants). That might change if it goes to trial.

"Mom, look, I made it to the top!”

A man who dressed up in a Roman Gladiator costume on Jan. 6 has been charged in connection with the Capitol riot.

Nathan Wayne Entrekin was arrested in Cottonwood, Arizona, today. #CaesarNoSalad

“Here comes the riot police, Mom… This is our house! Wow, Mom. I wish you were here with me. It’s really exciting in here. It’s joyful and it’s sad at the same time. We can’t let Biden... to be our president.” huffpost.com/entry/roman-gl…
Nathan Entrekin was portraying Captain Moroni from the Book of Mormon. Here’s the FBI affidavit, featuring a lot of helpful and informative background: huffpost.com/entry/roman-gl…

NEW: Judge Trevor McFadden says Capitol defendant Brandon Fellows has shown “sustained contempt for the government.”

Pretrial release is revoked. He’ll be locked up.

“I can no longer give the defendant the benefit of the doubt,” he said. “I’ve tried, but we are where we are.”
Government said they put a plea offer on the table. It would require him to plead guilty to a felony, and the government calculated his sentencing guidelines at 15-21 months.
For more background on Brandon Fellows, read this @emptywheel thread:

Several hearings in Capitol cases this afternoon, including one for Daniel Rodriguez, who was captured using a stun gun on D.C. Officer Mike Fanone. Rodriguez was arrested in March. huffpost.com/entry/daniel-j…
Here’s our story from February on how Daniel Rodriguez was identified: huffpost.com/entry/fanone-t…
The Daniel Rodriguez case went straight to indictment, so we didn’t get specific confirmation of how the work of #SeditionHunters came into play. But this new discovery letter specifically cites @1600PennPooch’s video. #TaserPrick

Great story here. Another component to this is that it was abundantly at the time that McSwain was plotting a run for office and was making ham-fisted moves to use his office to bolster his name recognition. washingtonpost.com/national-secur…
McSwain was certainly no stranger to highly irregular press conferences! huffpost.com/entry/larry-kr…
You’d have to be really obtuse not to see what he’s been doing here. From July 2020: inquirer.com/politics/clout…

Five years ago, @dliebelson, @shaneshifflett and I led a newsroom-wide effort to collect a year’s worth of data on jail deaths nationwide. This was the first piece in our series, focusing on the most common and preventable cause of jail deaths: highline.huffingtonpost.com/articles/en/sa…
The jail deaths project remains one of the most important works of my career. Sadly, federal data on jail deaths remains outdated and aggregated at the state level, rendering it practically useless. huffpost.com/entry/jail-dea…
One of the interviews that has stuck with me ever since: huffpost.com/entry/jail-sui…
