Disabled in Alberta: Suffering During the Heat/Smoke (thread).
In Edmonton the #AQHI climbed steadily to a 10+ today. 10+ is dangerous, it is literally off the scale. It is dangerous to everyone but especially so to disabled people.

I live in an apartment on the 3rd floor. The building has no A/C, no fans, and is smaller than 3 matchboxes. Okay, 6.
Air quality isn't great even on normal days.
By now someone is asking what's a matchbox. Ben Harper is asking why my dad doesn't move me to nicer place.

The temperature in the apartment can rise to 40 degrees, 50 on the balcony in direct sun. It faces west so summer time it gets the sun until 10PM. The only way to survive is open all the windows and sit in front of a fan bought by relatives.

Side note to my case worker, no report required.
Without a fan or fans I'd probably dead. If the police knew they might break a window to let me out. People don't allow their pets to sit in that level of heat. Alberta disability benefits provide NO relief and no money to help.

Many people are asking strangers online to help as the Alberta government, Kenney's people, plug in their Apple air buds and race away in black air conditioned limos, or air conditioned RVs, some fully stocked with ice made from nurse's tears, and a fridge stocked with whiskey.

Those really fortunate disabled people convince a stranger or family member to buy them a portable A/C unit. They save lives. I'll repeat that loudly for those UCP wearing ear plugs. A/C UNITS SAVE LIVES.
Add to the potentially tragic situation a person with respiratory problems.

My pulmonologist uses fancy words to describe my condition so ableds and government will believe it's real.
I just say: I CAN'T BREATHE.
Pass another inhaler, please, I'll try the green one, thank you.
For the UCP, we don't really party and pass them around.

Wish I could enjoy legal weed. Thanks PMJT for legalized cannabis. Moving on.
I've ended up in ER gasping for breath. My family sacrificed and bought me an air purifier and a window A/C unit because don't like funerals. And they still like me, some days.
Kenney CUT my benefits.

Of six children, only two of us live in Alberta. One in the US. He says Kenney sounds as crazy as TGOT. One in St. John's. She breathes the fresh sea air, sighes, and asks why is Kenney trying to kill you? What did you do to him? One in Nova Scotia, refuses to set foot in AB

or to invest in Alberta with Kenney losing money as quick as you earn it. Kenney doesn't earn money. You have to work to do that. Kenney sucks endlessly at taxpayer's teats while complaining that it's hard. But I digress.
