We live in so-called subsidized housing in the suburbs. The rent is a bit higher than some but the unit includes, water, heat, and a 40% discount on Internet and TV. It has an elevator, security, and is a certified crime free building. It has a washer and dryer in the bathroom.
It has a 6x12 balcony, nice but over looking a busy 4 lane highway, and noisier than a race track. It modern windows and doors that seal up so well, we can't hear the traffic with them closed.
The water pressure is great, and the water clean. The heat is included and efficient.
The heat is so great that winter time we rarely turn it on, heat just rises. The windows have modern blinds that are included. It is a smoke free building, though people puff away on their balconies. Same with the demon weed. It has two bedrooms. My partner is also disabled.
It has security patrolled parking, I have an handicapped spot close to the main door. Reserved for me. It has Canada Post managed mail and parcel area to eliminate strangers entering the building. It has adequate closet space. It has network and phone jacks in 3 rooms.
It includes fridge, stove, dishwasher, double stainless steel sink and adequate cuboard space. I could go on. It took my partner and I literally 9 years to find this spot.

What's my point, you rightly ask?

Alberta CSS cut my partner's in half due to Kenney policy changes.
I'm on CPPD and have received small increases every. Every time I get an increase, CSS claws it back from my partner. Since my approval, CPPD have never contacted me other than to send me a T4. I can live where I want. I can even earn (wish) up to $5,000 per year without penalty.
Though if I did earn money, which I can't, CSS would take it off my partner's benefits.

With latest round of policy changes and income assistance cuts, our combined income is so low we will probably have to move from our apartment home.

Our case worker, the supervisor and
and our MLA, and the minister for CSS said there's nothing they can do, to apply for capital regional housing. My partner got us on that list years ago, no luck. The case worker said, too bad, we should start looking into homeless shelters.

After all these years we may have to
move into my van which is 15 years old with a leaky exhaust.

What can I do? What would you do?

I'm not ashamed to say, as I write this I can barely see through my tears.

My partner, usually the funniest most positive person in the room has developed insomnia, anxiety and
We've considered MAID.

THIS IS KENNEY'S ALBERTA

THIS YOUR NEW PROVINCE

THIS HELLBERTA

If you read about our death from exhaust fumes, you know who to blame.

DO NOT CALL FOR A WELLNESS CHECK, I'M JUST HAVING A REALLY BAD DAY.

Is this really the life you voted for?
Ask yourself, after a lifetime of hardwork do we deserve this? Does anyone deserve this discrimination and abuse?

We paid max taxes. I worked hard outside the home my partner worked hard caring for home and family. No child tax credits, no cheap day care, day care deductible
My partner did not pay into CPP. Our federal government does not consider her work of value. Thus does not qualify for CPPD. If she did, we would be close to okay, have freedom of movement, and earning capacity assuming either of our situations improves.

Since being infomed
of these CUTS, my insomnia has increased. My anxiety level is on 100, I'm now on meds. We're both suffering from growing depression.

What started out as two talented, outgoing adults with physical disabilities is rapidly turning into two isolated, scared seniors praying every
for REAL CHANGE, or to be struck by real lightening.

If you've read this far, please know that our story is one of thousands in the new, callous, Alberta being created by Kenney and his facist, MAGA hat wearing, gun toting, pigs at the trough cronies.

My partner and I have been
completely "othered". The next step is the gas chamber only the gas chamber will be one I bought with cash when I was healthy.

Thanks for listening.

Please pray to whatever God or statue or monument or Buddha or whatever that YOU NEVER BECOME DISABLED in Alberta.

Time meds.

Kenney forces disabled people to bypass the CSS process.

They are under so much pressure due to ever shrinking benefits and increases in prices, all expenses, they always have an empty bank account.
(1)
The constant stress and fear, fear of eviction, fear of hunger, fear of their negative bank balance, or growing credit card debt. Or even worse than credit card debt, cash money type debt, the modern day loan sharks.
(2)
Fear makes people irrational. Fear hurts. Fear can cause a form of PTSD.

People begin to hide gifts from family and friends. They learn how to barter and beg and plead to get what they NEED. Because CSS claws it all away, or 99.9% of it.

Disabled in Alberta: Suffering During the Heat/Smoke (thread).
In Edmonton the #AQHI climbed steadily to a 10+ today. 10+ is dangerous, it is literally off the scale. It is dangerous to everyone but especially so to disabled people.
I live in an apartment on the 3rd floor. The building has no A/C, no fans, and is smaller than 3 matchboxes. Okay, 6.
Air quality isn't great even on normal days.
By now someone is asking what's a matchbox. Ben Harper is asking why my dad doesn't move me to nicer place.
The temperature in the apartment can rise to 40 degrees, 50 on the balcony in direct sun. It faces west so summer time it gets the sun until 10PM. The only way to survive is open all the windows and sit in front of a fan bought by relatives.
