An Online Environmental Scan of Right-Wing Extremism in Canada isdglobal.org/isd-publicatio…
ISD identified 2,467 RWE accounts, channels, & pages which were active in 2020, which produced a total of 3,207,332 pieces of content.
"The comparative scale of this activity is difficult to determine, but if considered in the context of the total number of SM users in Canada, the proportion of RWE activity remains small" "Despite this, RWEs in Canada are able to generate a sizeable reaction from the public."
The Report found that COVID-19 had a significant impact on RWE activity in 2020. ISD hypothesise that the increase in activity was in part driven by COVID-19 restrictions and the resulting increase in the time that many people spent online.
The interesting point is how COVID-19 had an impact on RWE discussion where the pandemic accounted for 38.8% of all messages with output often focusing on conspiracy theories and manifesting in anger against the government. (not surprising but quantitative findings are key)
"Canadian RWEs appear to be heavily influenced
by US activity. Across our platforms of analysis, we
found that Canadian RWEs mentioned the US more
than Canada. "
Another important finding is how "RWEs in Canada are drivers of disinformation. Across the platforms of analysis, we identified Canadian RWE to be key drivers of disinformation."
"The enforcement of social media policy impacts RWE activity online, but does not appear to have a lasting effect. We found that a significant proportion of the channels analysed in 2019 were no longer active in 2020. "
"this enforcement does not always have a sustained impact on the presence of extremist communities. our research suggests that Facebook’s current efforts to police RWE use of its platform have not been sufficient at systematically degrading the ability of extremists to operate."
ISD analysis "nalysis suggests that fringe platforms host more hateful and violent content than larger, more mainstream platforms, including direct organisation by designated terror groups."

1/ How is QAnon reacting to the launch of GETTR? Well it's a mixed bag for the conspiracy theorists. Some believe that it's code for GET HR (get her/get Hillary) while others thinks it's a code and a trap to get Trump and patriots GET TR
2/ This misplaced trust is not surprising, as the most shared posts on Telegram about this are from Fake Accounts set up for Liz Crokin (og influencer) and fake accounts for Sidney Powell and Michael Flynn.
3/ Not sure how reliable a QAnon influencer reaching out to Flynn and Powell is to confirm they're not on GETTR, but if they are not some one from the platform is trying to get them to join or give the appearance they are there to generate traffic.

Roughly half of respondents who agree with QAnon also agree that the rise of liberalism has enabled Jewish people to destroy institutions and take over the world.

QAnon and Protocols believers were slightly more likely than U.S. conservatives to say that Capitol rioters were seeking to protect the government.
Both conspiracy-embracing groups track closely with right-leaning adults when it comes to questions about voter fraud and the 2020 presidential election.

1) Perceived White population decline (pwpd) leads to collective existential threat
2) Existential threat is related to FR support
3) PWPD has a robust indirect relationship with measures of FR support via collective existential threat. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
What the study found was that individuals who perceived White population decline were more likely to agree with the statements “My racial group may one day disappear” and “My racial group is on the verge of annihilation.”
This existential threat, in turn, predicted increase sympathy for feelings for far-right extremist groups and increased support for stricter immigration policies.
The existential threat was not triggered by other types of population change the study found.

This was posted to McAfee's Instagram and is running wild in QAnon ecosystems unsurprisingly. Some are saying he had information Hilary, others said he's Epstein 2.0, others asking if he was Q?
The exact timestamp indicated possibly a scheduled post: 2021-06-23T20:10:04.000Z h/t to my buddy @JordanWildon
The time and timestamp indicated that this was a planned post troll, he's last post was October 2020 and the one before that November 19. The infrequency of his Instragram post raises a red flag with this last one and begs the question if someone with account access is trolling

1/ I agree with Jordan, the original tweet by @APerliger makes some excellent points; however, I would have to disagree as Jordan did. There is plenty of evidence of the transnationalisation of the far right that is not anecdotal. AWD, The Base, FKD, are examples of this.l
2/ It's also remember that when taking ecosystems approach to IMVE actors there are plenty of examples of this. The recent InjektDivision case showed how the actor was networked with domestic and international ecosystems.
3/ Now this is not the traditional physical FTFs, and I agree with @APerliger there; though we now should talk about ecosystem rather than groups this it makes this space more nebulous

Wrote yesterday about a QAnon influencer with 338k followers has gone full neo-nazi. He is picking these narratives, "arguments", or images from neo-nazi ecosystems. The difference? This individual has more followers than the entire ecosystem I monitor.
The average violent extremist channel on telegram has 100-300 followers. A large channel has 1,000-3,000. This account has 100,000 times that. Long term education and investment in social programs are important. Short term it is hard to say what is a viable option for this scale.
Might be a pessimist. But would be interested in seeing studies or options for large scale prevention strategies for this.
