In 1990, former GOP Sen. Lowell Weicker made A Connecticut Party to run for Gov. He put together a coalition of liberal Rs and moderate Ds to win. In 1994, Weicker’s Lt Gov ran, but his party’s support collapsed. Here’s a map of A Connecticut Party’s performance in both races.
A Connecticut Party only lasted until 1998. In its short lifetime, it occasionally ran its own candidates, but mostly endorsed Democrats (and a handful of Republicans).
