What do we want technology to do in schools? #bolt677
This question and the following questions are related: “what works will our students exit school into?” And “what skills will they need to be successful?”, to form my answer.
The reality is: these questions and context of technology in education doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It is ever evolving, as is society.
Today’s students have the ability to learn coding as young as 5 (!) link here to a local company for reference: codeninjas.com/spruce-grove-a…
This simply wasn’t a “thing” 40 or 50 years ago. Students weren’t required to have the skills to code, or even have the knowledge of what “coding” is!
So when we ask the question, “what do we want technology to do in schools?”, the answer is dependent on a) societal context, and b) the educator’s pedagogy #bolt677

Personally I believe and utilize authentic assessment principles, whereby my course content and assessments are directly applicable to what my students will experience in the workforce. My pedagogy then speaks to the importance of employability of my students after graduation
Circling back to technology- my use of technology in the classroom is then designed not only to provide accessibility and engagement to students, but ALSO to offer them hands-on tools and skills that are directly transferable to the workforce #bolt677
