There has been a steady decrease in the losses in the electricity Distribution Network (AT&C Losses) in the country over the past 15 years, wherein these losses have reduced from 25.72% in the year 2014-15 to 21.83% in the year 2019-20.
Due to various reforms taken up by GoI and the state governments, more states have moved from higher distribution loss (AT&C loss) levels to lower AT&C loss levels over the last 10 years.
The following distribution utilities have registered AT&C loss of less than 15% in FY 2019-20.
Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme is a Reform based and Results linked scheme recently approved by the Govt. of India.
The scheme shall provide result-linked financial assistance to DISCOMs for strengthening of supply infrastructure based on meeting pre-qualifying criteria and achieving basic minimum benchmarks.
The Revamped Distribution Scheme targets AT&C losses at 12-15% by FY 25-26 as against current levels of 21-22%.

A meeting was called by Secretary , Power , GoI to proactively finalize the Guidelines on developing cyclone resilient distribution and transmission infrastructure .
Apart from officials of Ministry of Power , officials of the CEA and those of cyclone affected States as well as the officials of CPSUs working under the Ministry were present in the meeting .
Under the Guidelines , the DISCOMs are to set up cyclone resilient infrastructure in the coastal belt Upto 20 kM from the coastline and thereafter , progressively upto 60 kM.
Ministry of Power has constituted a Task Force on Cyclone Resilient Robust Electricity Transmission & Distribution infrastructure in coastal areas of the country to examine types & nature of damages to electricity infrastructure and to recommend preventive & mitigation measures.
Measures include various emergency preparedness plan, Design & Technological aspect, steps to be taken by utilities for capacity building to create cyclone resilient infrastructure to shorten restoration time (including ERS) and limit the impact of disaster.
Preparedness plan is to:
•Meet any contingency
•Reduce response time for assistance.
•Identify major resources, man power, materials etc. for making the plan operational
•Optimum use of available resources
•Improve the plan periodically based on learning over the time
