widespread loneliness is a national security issue
it can't be solved by FBI/CIA type agents though, it can only be solved by bros, by friends, by kind strangers, by community
a thing I've been ruminating on a lil as a treat:
on one hand it can be helpful to experiment with a radically localized frame of reference for thinking about one's life. put your own oxygen mask on first. don't worry about Big Problems that you cannot influence. focus on family
but on the other, I don't think it's super healthy to have a "I protect me and my family and fuck everyone else in this hostile universe who's out to get us" mindset. but this is SO context dependent. you might live somewhere that really is uncommonly hostile, zero-sum, etc
growing up it seemed obvious that there are lovely people in the 🌍 out there that I do not know. that's where 📚🎨🎭🎶 comes from. that gives me a *reason* to give a shit about myself, so that I can get my shit together well enough to go meet them
I think where I'm ending up with this is: overly elegant, simplistic models of being might be seductive, but they're fragile. it's the seeing-like-a-state problem applied for your own psychology.
periodic reminder (more for myself than for you) that I tweet for 0.1% outliers in optimism, thoughtfulness, creativity, kindness, competence, ambition, drive, curiosity.
all are welcome to read and hang out, but I won't dilute my writing trying to be "more accessible"
the challenge for a lot of dudes is to learn to care for and care about a world that does not seem to give the slightest fuck about you
I intend to spend like decades of my life helping dudes with this
you kinda have to be a sucker for punishment because some of these dudes are so far gone that when you try to help them, their main goal will be to try and ruin *you*, bc they don’t believe someone like you could be genuine, and so they wanna expose you as the fraud u must be
so you have to be quite strategic about this, play a long game, make sure to manage your own emotions and psychology well, recognise that there are some people you can’t help rn. focus on helping those you can, connect them to each other, strengthen the crew, support each other
there’s something interesting going on in the world of wojaks, I think it’s becoming a sort of bridge-between-worlds. What really blew my mind was when they integrated ancient Sumerian drawings into them seamlessly
there’s a certain universality about these memes, they’re shaping up to be a kind of bottom up contemporary pantheon, which I think gives us a window into a better understanding of the deities and gods and spirits of our ancestors
