Three years ago, when I launched my first free UI kit for @figmadesign there was no Figma Community yet. There was no easy way to share and promote my freebie either.

I remember that I was inspired by @gregdlubacz and @JanLosert, who shared their @sketch products and freebies via @gumroad back then. I decided that I will use Gumroad too. It was easy to use, and I liked Gumroad's 'Pay what you want' feature. The account was also free.

I uploaded the Figma files to Gumroad, wrote a short story about it on @Medium, and shared it on @Prototypr. You can still read it here if you are interested: blog.prototypr.io/introduction-t…

I knew nothing about marketing back then. I just wanted to share my freebie with the world. Later, I read a book called The Laptop Millionaire by @themarkanastasi. It showed me the importance of having an e-mail list.

I realized that my free UI kit was a lead magnet, and I could reach out to my customers about new resources I release.

Product Design Kit was getting new downloads every day, and my e-mail list was growing.

In the meantime, I was working on Ant Design System for Figma (antforfigma.com). After six months, I managed to finish it and I was ready to announce it to my e-mail list.

I designed a simple landing page for the product and sent the announcement to over 4500 people on my list.

After one week, it generated over $1500 in sales. I still remember my first customer @davidacreates and excitement when I saw +49$ on my Gumroad account.

After one month, the product earned $7500.

No ads. Only e-mail list.

If it were not for the e-mail list on @gumroad, I wouldn't be able to reach people who are interested in design systems and Figma. That's why I think you should consider collecting e-mails for downloads.

How?
👉 Design a simple landing page for your product
👉 Add your product to Gumroad
👉 Add description, file preview, and a nice cover
👉 Set a Deliver product option to your Figma community file link (help.gumroad.com/article/149-ad…)

Ah, and don't forget to
👉 Teach how to use your product everywhere you can
👉 Write a Medium story about how it's helping you do your everyday work
