As humans, we live in a world heavily populated pathogenic and non-pathogenic micro-organisms such as bacteria, fungi, yeast, viruses...
In one of zoom discussion meetings, I once mentioned that COVID-19 is not the last pandemic we're facing. Perhaps another virus is evolving somewhere - learning to adapt to infect human cells from animals...
Unfortunately, we can't run away from our environment or live in sterile environment. With that in mind, we can cherish the idea that our bodies are well equipped to deal with infectious agents...
This is through human immune response, our bodies can deal with infectious agents like SARS-CoV-2. Our immune response is categorized into:
- innate and
- adaptive immune, which work synergistically to eliminate the infectious agent/s...
The innate and adaptive immune responses are coordinated mechanisms that are able of self-nonself discrimination. That is, the body is able to destroy a wide of pathogens without unleashing these destructive mechanism against the body's own tissues...
This ability is referred to as self-tolerance while the opposite of this self-tolerance can lead to autoimmune diseases...
Let me not go into details, but deal with what we regard as a side effect, when in reality, it's not. That is FEVER!
FEVER is actually a hallmark of infection. It's a survival benefit where the body temperature increases above the normal 37 deg celcius...
This increase in temperature also helps to stimulate other innate immune cells.
In short, having FEVER a few hours after infections is not really a side effect in the true sense of the words, but a response to the foreign substance which the body recognizes.
FEVER is the initiation of response which will eventually lead to the production of neutralizing antibodies about 2-3 weeks. So, one could take home medication to manage the temperature from not going out of hand as it can also be deleterious if it's too high
That's why they check your temperatures either at the shop or workplace. A raised temperature could be one of the signs of infection.

1. Bodily structure is mainly a function of genes. Eg, the size of one's muscles, feet, hands, nose, etc. There's little one can do with the size of their feet/hands. Those are inherited. It's not like ppl stand on a queue to choose the size of their feet...
2. It's not only affected by DNA (backbone of a gene), but can also be affected by gene expression (the conduct of the gene). In other words, twins can have the same DNA sequence for feet, but the expression of such genes can determine the size of their feet.
When they associate leadership with one's reproductive biology, I always laugh:
- my grandma was the leader of the clan - I know no one who could glue a family like her.
- now my mom has taken that role
- my ex wife taught me lessons about faith...
Remember, I also teach molecular genetics and mmamluan sex determination. It would take some serious efforts to convince me that leadership is an sex-linked trait - ie is it's only found on the sex-determining factor (Sry gene)...
such that only those with Y-chromosome are gifted to lead.
Same applies to gender-based roles - no domestic chores are assigned based on the XY or XX genotype. It's not the amount of testosterone that determines your role in a COMPLEMENTARY romantic R'SHIP...
1. Data submitted shows that the single-shot J&J vaccine elicits strong neutralizing antibodies that do not wane for at least 8 months, the latest timepoint recorded in the study. Instead of waning, rather, an improvement over time has been observed...
2. A persistent and particularly robust, durable cellular immune response was also observed. Data showed that T-cell responses, including CD8+ T-cells that seek out and destroy infected cells, persisted over the eight-month timeframe examined...
Well, the good thing is that this is not applicable in Mzantsi.
- in Mzantsi, health research involving human participants is regulated by the National Health Act (61 of 2003), specifically s72(6)(c) and s90(s).
Rather than read dubious blog posts or google, I recommend that you READ the following:
- Department of Health's Ethics in Health Research: Principles, Processes and Structures, 2nd Ed.
- South African Clinical Practice: Clinical Trial Guidelines, 3rd Ed...
Health Research in Mzantsi respects human rights based on the country's Constitution which respects the right to private and bodily intervention. So, every health research that involves human participants must respect these rights...
How I love Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, let me count the ways:
🧵
Prince Buthelezi dies not bit around the bush, he tells it as it is that Adv Sikhakhane SC and team are the reasons former Pres, JG Zuma, is in jail. That they MISLED him and were SMILING after that.
Did Adv Muzi Sikhakhane SC smiled his way to the bank?
He says his interview on #Phoenix was manipulated by those politicians who feed on racial divisions. That there was 'no nexus whatsoever' with his condemning of the looting and the #PhoenixMassacre...
Just for a moment, forget about their conduct on Twitter and their populist antics, EFF saved the country from moving to Dubai. Their #PayBackTheMoney was a serious act of patriotism. It was not driven by their populism which you see lately...
So, indirectly, EFF led us to where we are in terms of defending the Institutions that promote democracy. At a deeper level, the Red Berets have substance and/or content. The populist antics are 'sometimes' driven by electioneering and not by principle...
The latest public statement show you the potential in the red berets, and the potential in Dr Ndlozi, minus the urge to be relevant. Allie Ndlozi space to develop his emotional intelligence - he's an asset for the country...
