In my latest for @snopes, we explored statements made by Ohio attorney Thomas Renz that claimed 45,000 people have died within three days of receiving their #COVID19 vaccine. Allegations were said to have come from a “government insider.” [A thread.]
I watched and transcribed the 21-minute video. At the core of Renz’s argument was a lawsuit he filed in Alabama on behalf of America’s Frontline Doctors against U.S. DHHS Secretary Xavier Becerra that claimed the government did not have grounds to roll out the three vaccines.
A complaint, which starts a lawsuit, was formally filed on June 10 demanding a jury trial. Renz was listed as a signatory in a statement that read, “The Vaccines are unapproved, inadequately tested, experimental and dangerous biological agents…”
While some have used the lawsuit to suggest there is legitimacy in its contents, it's important to remember that filing a lawsuit does not guarantee that the case has legal or factual merit.
The video came as Renz filed a July 19 injunction asking Becerra to stop EUAs for #COVID19 vaccines while the case was pending. It also alleged a "Jane Doe" with “subject matter expertise in healthcare data analytics” had evidence that proved the three vaccines were dangerous.
That evidence was said to have included data from the @CDCgov#VAERS system. @snopes also searched through the system and found that between Jan. 1 and July 21, 2021, there were an estimated 5,000 deaths associated with the COVID-19 vaccine.
Time and again, dubious VAERS reports have been at the center of fear-mongering cries to stir opposition against #COVID19 vaccines. VAERS has its own inherent issues with data collection, but it’s important to remember that:
✔️Anyone can file a report in the system.
✔️A listed report has not necessarily been evaluated by medical professionals.
✔️A report does not establish a cause-and-effect relationship.
