Just restating that people like Townsend and up are the real ones with power here. Until people up in those levels feel real consequences and workers have power as a group to push back, this will go on and on and on and on.
It does seem appropriate that Fran Townsend worked for Bush but honestly you're going to find people across the political spectrum doing stuff like this. Really hammers home how the larger power at work when it comes to workplace abuse like this transcends identity and ideology.
Fran isn't some gamerbro, some creature of the games and tech frat house, some nerd culture goblin. Fran is a polished, educated woman with government experience who has a job and a material interest. Fran makes ungodly amounts of money to keep this all internal.
The ability of a company to sexually abuse women who work there and keep what happened quiet and make sure the abuser is protected flows from the same power they have to crunch their workers, to do mass layoffs, to underpay developers, etc. These aren't separate things.
Once you connect those things up it all becomes a lot clearer. This is a different branch of the same conversation.
It is in the material interests of the people who profit most from this to make sure all conversations are about individual bad actors and company culture. Those are 1000% big things to address but the people with the most power in the situation would love for you to stop there.
