A thread as you remember Jackie Mason, who campaigned for Rudy Giuliani in 19189 until he made a series of racist attacks on David Dinkins.

This is Mason telling Arsenio Hall about campaigning for Rudy — before he was booted.
...and this is the rest of the appearance, in which a bemused Arsenio does his best to let Mason rescue the bit. Mason would go on to get reluctantly dropped by Rudy for remarks about Mr. Dinkins, like...
"There is a sick Jewish problem of voting for a black man no matter how unfit he is for the job. All you have to do is be black and don't curse the Jews directly, and the Jew will vote for a black in a second. Jews are sick with complexes." - Jackie Mason orlandosentinel.com/news/os-xpm-19… Image
"You don't need a guy like Dinkins, who spends his whole life putting on shirts and jackets and parting his hair. Dinkins looks like a black model without a job." - Jackie Mason orlandosentinel.com/news/os-xpm-19… Image
Jackie Mason also called David Dinkins, soon to be New York's first Black mayor, a "fancy schvartze with a mustache." Schvartze is a derogatory Yiddish word for Black people.

nytimes.com/1989/10/02/nyr… Image
This is Jackie Mason defending his use of the slur against Mayor Dinkins, and mocking terms like "African American" in the process. WARNING: includes use of the hard "R" n-word. (Note he acknowledges the derogatory nature of the word)
That Jackie Mason appearance also included a chunk on "Black racists" and I swear you can hear literal crickets at one point, and Mason has to prompt the audience to react. (from 1993)
SNL mocked Mason at the time with a cold-open
And of course, Jackie Mason used the same slur against Barack Obama. Here's Mason defending himself on the basis that Chris Rock talksk aboutu white people. tmz.com/2009/03/16/jac…
Jackie Mason came out hard against Obama from thebeginning and never let up. Here he is in 2007 saying the only reason people would vote for then-Senator Barack Obama "is because he's Black."

Also suggests Obama become a "head waiter" or a "doorman."
He also cut a now-deleted anti-Obama ad for the Republican Jewish Coalition

forward.com/news/israel/14…

But there are dozens of anti-Obama commentaries still live on Youtube. youtube.com/user/TheUltima…
And of course, Jackie Mason was pro-Trump to the end. Here he is in April saying Trump was the "most effective president since Abraham Lincoln."
Those who know me know I don't celebrate anyone's death. I just thought people should know these things before they hit "send" on that Jackie Mason tribute tweet.
The funny thing is I used to like Jackie Mason because I thought he did the voice of the aardvark in The Ant and the Aardvark, but it wasn't even him, it was John Byner. Anyway, I found out he was a POS in this bonkers @TYT interview from 2007

Visiting my mom in the hospital for possibly the last time today. I happened to pick this shirt, and then I remembered it's the exact same color as the cushion she handmade me for my sousaphone (yep, I played that).
Lots of reminders of Mom today. Passed an AccessLink van on the Parkway, that's how she would come to see us sometimes. Passed a Stewart's. That was our special place when I was little. She...
... Mom used to tell me about going to "Stortz Root Beer" is what I thought she was saying, with her grandfather. And one time, we were out running errands and she said "Let's go to Stortz."

I was probably 4 or 5 and I told her I didn't like the taste of beer. She laughed and...

CNN poll undersampled Black voters — that's how Trump made up 10 points over last month. THREAD.

Wondering how Trump closed his gap with Biden from 14 points in June to 4 points in August? So was I.

June cdn.cnn.com/cnn/2020/image…

August cdn.cnn.com/cnn/2020/image…
There are 2 related reasons. The June poll included an oversample of Black voters, while the August poll did not sample enough Black voters to include them in crosstabs, which means fewer than 125 (see poll methodology). And the Aug poll oversampled "battleground states" voters.
Pretty much all of Trump's gains and Biden's losses are attributable to white voters and independents. So this poll basically reflects and exaggerates the reaction of white people to the selection of Kamala Harris.

THREAD on the Joe Biden "n-word" video smear that's been going around. It's obvious he's quoting someone, this is the passage it was clipped from. He was grilling a Reagan nominee about pre-clearing an obviously racist redistricting plan. mediaite.com/a/isgeg
Biden first brought up the quote the day before, but the video was jacked up, there's only audio. He was reading from a memo that the nominee William Bradley Reynolds saw BEFORE he precleared the racist plan. mediaite.com/a/isgeg
Biden absolutely GRILLED the guy on this case, a grilling I present here in parts. Part 1: mediaite.com/a/isgeg

@fawfulfan @leahmcelrath @emilycrockett @Mediaite There are a few reasons why this bothers me, but I'd first like us all to agree on the facts. What she said in 2007 is definitely in conflict with what she says now, and what she said in 2007 was factual. She lacked the credentials to keep the job.
@fawfulfan @leahmcelrath @emilycrockett @Mediaite From a purely political perspective, Warren has considerable strengths, but also vulnerabilities that need to be addressed and aren't. They need to be addressed before she's the nominee, not exploited after. So I'll stipulate to her strengths.
@fawfulfan @leahmcelrath @emilycrockett @Mediaite Medicare for All is a significant vulnerability for reasons I've written extensively about, but Warren has wisely begun positioning for a pivot. mediaite.com/opinion/elizab… Unfortunately that pivot could be a liability as well.

1. Here's a thread on this thread. The @SenFeinstein video needs to be viewed 2 ways, on the optics and the substance. On the optics, there's clearly a gulf between the edited and the full video.
@SenFeinstein 2. All of the conflict occurs after @SenFeinstein agrees she might vote YES on #GND, and spends several minutes engaging substantively on the issue. That's important context that they left out.
@SenFeinstein 3. OTOH, provoked or not, her reaction is open to fair criticism, and they also didn't show the part where she and her staff were like "Nah, you don't need to read this mess out loud, thx." But she then engages them for a very long time more and offers one of them an internship.
