Why we’re #JewsForYuhLine: jewishvote.org/jewsforyuhline A letter from Jewish #NY10 voters expressing our strong support for Assembly member @Yuhline’s candidacy, to represent our communities in Congress. Read on:
She’s been fighting for NYers in gov & advocacy roles for over a decade, first serving as Chief of Staff to @rontkim. In 2016, she was elected in a historic landslide victory becoming the 1st AAPI woman in the NYS Assembly & 1st Asian-American to represent Chinatown in State Leg.
Since, she has built a movement in NY to fight for transparency, accessibility, and accountability in our government. In Albany, Yuh-Line stands up to systemic corruption and negligence and is a powerful voice for tenant protections, affordable housing, consumer protection,

The paradigm is not "old vs new politics" between progressives and Democrats. That's not the appropriate dichotomy. It's "effective vs. performative." For all the criticism of incremental progress I don't see any progress from progressives. It's all esoteric praise for "fighting"
Or it's blame-shifting. Or taking all the credit while refusing to take none of the blame. I see that too much from certain progressives. Everything is everybody's fault except theirs. That's something to consider when considering the nature of their criticism.
For example progressives blamed liberals and Obama for the overturning of Roe. They blamed him for not forcing RBG to retire (as if McConnell would've allowed him to fill the seat anyway) and then they cherrypicked a comment from a random press conference

The party should always be evolving and it is. It is filled with smart women, Black folks, LGBTQIA. People willing to work. The party is not perfect but it does not need to bend to the will of disaffected Bernie supporters. And that’s what this fight is really about.
This not about “fight” or a “plan” or “meeting the moment” or none of that shit. This is about a calculated effort to take over a party that rejected them. It’s happening on multiple fronts and either you get that or you don’t. Either you see it or you won’t.
I do not want a "fighter." I don't want politicians always on Twitter "fighting" about something. I want workers. People willing to put in the time and sweat equity. Don't tell me your plans. Get in there and work for them. Show me your history of turning your plans into action.

I’m a 45-year-old Black man who has been politically active since I was 18. It’s interesting to hear people aligned with Warren, Bernie and other progressive groups use the term “fight for us” so frequently because I have yet to see that shit when it comes to my community.
I grew up in the ‘80s-‘90s and these same folks were all in for “Save the Wetlands” and “Protect the Ozone Layer” not so much mass incarceration or police accountability tho but they’ll tell you how much Democrats and Biden contributed to that without explaining their inaction.
They’ll also neglect to tell you how hard they bit on the Bernie train and how much time they spent advocating for #M4A and #GND while ignoring reproductive rights. But suddenly when Roe was overturned they bore no responsibility and Democrats were to blame.

AOC is doing a good job of supporting Democrats and Biden's expansive bill that includes the #GND, while also calling out "fossil fuel lobbyists who brag about having members of Congress on speed dial." She is calling out Manchin by his actions. "We have to choose the science."
AOC says members of her community have had to remove bodies of people who died in basement apartments during flash floods and that this cannot continue. She cites the stats on how the overwhelming majority of Americans are ready to.address #ClimateCrisis.
Asked about Greg Abbott's comments on rape, AOC says she finds his comments "disgusting," and that "he doesn't understand biology 101," that it's six weeks before a menstruating person knows they have missed a period.

On the Transition from Feudalism to Capitalism and the #GND, or Why I Read Mostly #Medieval History For My Thesis Despite Being an Urban Planner.

A thread:
First the why:

At its root, the Green New Deal is a blueprint for a transition from one mode of production to a new, yet to be defined mode of production. Fossil Capital is in its end stage and what comes next is up to us. Nothing is inevitable; everything is contestable.
My thesis explores how municipal policies can hasten the transition from fossil fuels to renewables, redress specific social deficits from exploitative economic and political policies, and create a just and sustainable future. What policies fundamentally alter social relations?

Black and white progressives arguing Black folks are "weaponizing empathy and identity" are no different from conservatives and Republicans arguing against "liberal guilt" or "playing the race card."

It's the EXACT SAME ARGUMENT. Full stop.
Black and white progressives arguing that #M4A although it doesn't specifically address racism in the medical field will still help Black people and people of color are no different from supply-side Republicans who argued tax cuts will trickle down to impoverished communities.
Black and white progressives arguing for progressive purity and fealty to #GND #M4A and Bernie's platform and no exceptions are no different than Tea Party Republicans who demanded purity and fealty to their platform of wealthy tax cuts and deregulation 10 years ago.

At what point do we ask ourselves are these folks fighting "against the establishment" just interlopers trying to overturn the will of the Black base of the Democratic Party? There's something very weird about jamming your agenda down the throat of folks that don't want it.
If you listen to them, they'll quote all kinds of surveys about how popular their agenda is. But in practicality they have problems answering about how they will get it done. And they really struggle at times with persuading Black folks to join their cause.
And they seem rather impatient. No real hunger for the work or grind. They want it all RIGHT NOW. And if you don't give them what they feel entitled to then the here comes the name calling

A thread by BRD for your consideration:

Today is #ArmedForcesDay- too often a day where politicians offer platitudes about sacrifice and gratitude while they continue to send our troops to kill and die in endless wars for profit and power- not justice or freedom. #NoMoreWar /1

A recurring viral genre during the lockdown is photos of signs on the front doors of low-waged establishments (especially fast food restaurants) asking customers to have patience with long wait-times brought on by staffing shortages "because no one wants to work."

1/ The cover of McJob zine #2,...
These signs go on to claim that "overgenerous" unemployment benefits in the Biden stimulus have encouraged work-shyness among the lazy slobs of the working class. It's a complaint that's been picked up and amplified by the @USChamber.

2/
They're not entirely wrong.

After all, the subtext of these signs is, "Our pay is so low, and our working conditions are so awful, that only the truly desperate would do this job. In forestalling that desperation, the federal government has deprived us of our workforce."

If #EUGreendeal #GND new infrastructure, its production & transport, adds to current world emissions, and if workers spend earnings on climate sabotage, we're fucked. We've GOT to reduce 50% of CO2e (e !) by 2030.
Stray only a little and the task will fail.eenews.net/stories/106372…
"Irony of Biden's climate plan is that a blitz of construction and manufacturing would almost certainly drive emissions up, at least in the short term"

There's only 1 answer: safely curb global economic activity so 50% less CO2e (e !) by 2030 has a chance.
"Democrats' answer to that paradox is twofold: Clean up American manufacturing and source everything domestically."
The direction of thought is correct. But it's not the thought that counts. CO2e emissions count. And don't forget: not only US and EU are increasing infrastructure

Did folks forget Biden is implementing the #GND and that Harris not only ran on it, but was the first to co-sponsor it and co-wrote GND legislation with AOC? Also, ICE was established by Bush2 to profile and deport brown people, which is ALL it does. It's 100% racist AND fascist.
ICE is the GOP-bred goon squad that nabs parents outside schools, old people outside churches and undocumented workers doing jobs Americans refuse to do. Only the GOP is pro-ICE. If ICE is your immigration plan, rethink it.
People are all riled up about the border when they should be riled up about the GOP seditionists still in the House and Senate. Even moderate Democrats know ICE needs to go.

It's been a while since we've done this, so it's time to go back to the basics. I'm sure at this point most of us have heard about the need for a "Green New Deal". But what exactly is the GND? Here is a brief explainer ⬇️! Share this with anyone who needs some convincing
Most of us first heard about the #GND2030 when @AOC and @EdMarkey introduced the GND Resolution in 2019.

However, the Green Party came up with the original iteration of the Green New Deal in 2006 and the UN even urged the adoption of a global GND in 2009
So what is the GND? Broadly, it's a plan for massive government investment in green energy and climate infrastructure in order to decarbonize the country and create millions of new, high-paying jobs.

The goal is to save the planet by ending carbon-emissions in the US by 2030.

$600/wk Unemployment Insurance cannot deliver the benefits of a $600/wk Job Guarantee. From the outset, I should say JG is not a replacement for UI, no matter what you may have heard. I’ll get to this later, but read this long 🧶 w/ that in mind.
Automatic stabilization: Both $600/wk UI and JG will provide counter cyclical spending. But UI will be weaker. Counter-cyclical stabilization is not just about the absence of income. It is also about the transmission and structure of economy
Firms don't like to hire the unemployed. Mass and long-term unemployment make the problem worse. JG would recover labor markets much faster than a UI of the same amount, both b/c of the higher direct, induced & tertiary employment effects & b/c of private firm hiring preferences.

Accounting prof and #GND cofounder @RichardJMurphy wrote an astounding thread over the weekend explaining where money comes from and what purpose taxation serves.

He's since published an edited version under the title "Macroeconomics, money and post-Brexit recovery, all in one Twitter thread," saying it "took four hours and 40 years of thinking to write."

It's a masterclass in the real world of money creation and taxation, beyond simplistic - and ahistorical - stories about money emerging from barter, followed by confiscation of our money by governments.
