This tweet supposedly originates from @AllegraCOP26, a top comms pro working for @BorisJohnson, the Prime Minister of the UK, leading his messaging to the world on the most important crisis facing humanity.
Pretending individuals can make any real difference in a system driving them toward climate catastrophe is dishonest & dangerous.
The massive systems change required needs clarity, competence & courage. Not patronising claptrap.
17 years ago the Cabinet agreed & published an international energy & climate strategy for the UK. The first ever.
It wasn’t perfect. But it was clear, & right, about the central challenges, the massive change needed to address them & (at least some) of how to achieve that.
Let’s be clear. Even if all UK households stopped using dishwashers entirely (if they have them), it would be utterly irrelevant. Not just to global carbon reduction, but also to the UK’s proportionate share - whether by population, GDP, whatever.
Attempting to ‘nudge’ the population with a fake prospectus about individual responsibility is at best pointless (& highly irritating), at worst a serious distraction.
Now, I can already hear the political geniuses who brought us so many benefits for our national security, prosperity & well-being with their brilliant strategies, negotiations & ‘heists’ over recent years, explaining how bad I must be at politics.
“Distraction is just what we need”, they cry. “How else will we be able to get people to accept the scale of change necessary?”
Can I gently suggest, friends, that whatever it was that you were good at, it wasn’t negotiating, creating a durable (lasting more than 5 minutes) …
… strategy for the country, in its time of need. And it certainly hasn’t been governing.
Based on public statements, you have an extremely poor grasp of energy & climate requirements.
Let’s fix that last point, shall we?
The bit where reality matters.
Not opinion. Or spin. Or unicorns.
Happy to discuss, any time.
P.S. For the avoidance of doubt: @TwitterSupport, I don’t really believe @AllegraCOP26’s account has been hacked. No hacker would post anything so inappropriate.
Sorry for the false alarm.
P.P.S. 51% of UK households don’t have a dishwasher. This compares to nearly 100% which don’t have gold wallpaper.

Along with approaching 6 million others, a Holocaust survivor’s citizenship rights in the UK were revoked on 1 January 2021, to be replaced with an inferior status.
And for no other reason than she (& they) belong to a disfavoured group (EU citizens).
A Holocaust survivor. /2.
She, along with countless others, faces the prospect that she may be denied even that lesser status. /3.
There are only a few credible scenarios for this remarkable @guardian report, by @lukeharding1968 & colleagues, of leaked Kremlin papers showing a Putin plot to install Trump & destroy the US. All of them highly important to us all.
