1. It will be a trainee/internship position for a year before you are confirmed as an employee. However, I'd like to confirm all my writers. And want to grow the team.
So, if you only have a year or don't think of content writing as a career, this might not work for you.
2. We write complex tech content. You can see some samples in the portfolio section on our site.
So, you need to be someone who has the determination to figure it out, however complex it seems. (You'll have help, of course!)
3. It'll be great if you're enthused by challenges. At emdash, no new project is easier than the last. We proactively take up more challenging projects because that's where the money is.
We need you to be up for increasingly demanding work and have high personal standards.
4. While our writers typically work 6-7 hours a day, the work we do itself is intense. For instance, our clients rely on us to write a 2000-word whitepaper from a 1-2 line brief they send.
You need to be someone who can tell a story with minimal input.
5. We're highly feedback-driven. Everyone has feedback about something and are happy to share. You have the right to take it or leave it, though.
But the point is, you'll need to be willing to hear people pointing out errors or offering suggestions regularly.
6. The one thing I'll promise: You'll grow. Every single writer at emdash promises that they've grown exponentially during their time with us. You will be a better writer. You will also be a better business person if you're so inclined.
7. We have a detailed training structure for your first 4-6 weeks (something that's soon being offered as a certificate program in a leading Chennai college). Your foundation will be rock-solid. We do monthly reviews to keep track of progress.
8. I don't micromanage, your time is all yours. Typically, you choose your own deadlines. I don't care if you have sidegigs or alternate careers as long as you're delivering on what you commit to emdash. We're transparent — you're welcome to question me on anything.
9. We're super organised. You'll always have something to do. You'll always find the information you need without anyone having to forward any email to you. We're also pretty experimental (spoiler alert: Most experiments fail.)
10. tl;dr We do serious, complex and high-value technology content writing work at emdash. If that sounds interesting to you, I'd like to talk to you. Please email me with your resume and 3 samples at work@emdash.in.
11. As the plan is to hire a junior writer, we're offering Rs. 20,000 as the starting salary. If you have a few years of experience and want to apply, please do email me. Mention your experience and expected salary in your email as well.
You've other questions? I'm here only. :)
By the way, if you’ve applied before and it didn’t work for any reason, and you want to try again, please write to me. Mention that we’ve spoken before. Let’s figure this out.

Hello hello! Who wants to listen to a small-business-struggles-with-GST story? Gather around. This is good fun.
I did some work for a client in February and March, 2020. Raised an invoice promptly on March 1st and April 1st respectively, for the previous month's work. They typically pay within 2 weeks. But, they have NOT paid both these invoices.
On March 20th and April 20th, I have paid 18% as GST to the government. Because GST payments need to be made on the month of raising of invoice, not on receipt of payment. (P.S: This is *eighteen* percent. This could be the entire profit margin for some companies).
