Recently @javedakhtarjadu tweeted that Indians call Shah Jahan a foreigner, despite his being a 5th generation Indian with Rajput blood. He compared him to Obama becoming US president, despite having a Kenyan father. Let’s explore how history contradicts this ridiculous claim
2/n
One wonders what an "intellectual" like Akhtar was smoking to make such an idiotic comparison. Firstly, Obama was a democratically elected president chosen by the majority, while Shah Jahan was a generational despotic tyrant continuing his ancestral legacy of barbarism
3/n
Shah Jahan never considered himself a 5th generation Indian, he regarded himself as the 10th generation in the Turko-Mongol dynasty of Taimur which invaded India. This is clear from his official royal seal which proudly traces his Mughal lineage all the way back to Taimur.
4/n
The design of Mughal royal seals & their purpose is described by Abu’l Fazal, Akbar’s chronicler in “Ain-I-Akbari”. Smaller versions of the seals were referred to by their Turkic Chagtai name as “Uzuk” & personal seals contained distinct Islamic references to “Allahu Akbar”
5/n
Mughal dynasty's royal seal was designed as a central circle with the king’s name, surrounded by names of ancestors up to Taimur to deliberately remind Indians of their conquest over Indians. They were used in all official documents such as Firmaans & international treaties.
6/n
The seals are read starting with the emperor's name in the middle circle, then to outer circles with names of preceding kings & continuing clockwise to Taimur at the top of the seal. From Akbar to Bahadur Shah - every Mughal proudly traced lineage back to Taimur in this seal
7/n
Clearly, neither Shah Jahan nor any Mughal king considered themselves Indian, even after 20 generations. Shah Jahan’s matrilineal ancestry was indeed Hindu, but he never expressed any pride in it. He was taken away from his Rajput mother Jagat Gosain just 6 days after birth
8/n
He was taken away from Jagat Gosain because his horoscope indicated he would be a great Muslim king. He was raised by his grandmother, Akabar’s wife Ruqaiya Begum, Babur’s direct descendant, to ensure a fully Islamic environment & prevent undue influence from his Hindu mother
9/n
Gosain was tormented at the hands of Jahangir's muslim wife, Nur Jahan. In the end, she poisoned herself on 18th April, 1619. This shows Shah Jahan’s mother was abused by Mughal royalty due to her Hindu origin, even though her beauty & accomplishments out surpassed others.
10/n
Shah Jahan grew up a devout Muslim whose favorite books were biographies of his foreign ancestors Taimur & Babur’s & their barbaric conquest of India. The accounts described millions of Hindus being butchered. Taimur himself killed more than 1 Lakh Hindus in one single day.
11/n
Shah Jahan's court was built like a mosque to face Mecca to show loyalty to Islam over India. He tried to reinstate the discriminatory Jizya, but afraid of rebellion, modified the order to impose massive pilgrimage tax on Hindus to obstruct & block their religious activities
12/n
In 1633 CE, he ordered the destruction of incomplete temples & banned construction or repair of new temples. He banned the marriages of 4000 Hindus in Jammu who married Muslim women. The women had to leave & reconvert & men paid huge fines or forcibly converted to Islam.
13/n
Despite 75% of his genes originating from Hindus, Shah Jahan despised Hinduism - the indigenous culture of India. His contempt for Hindu ancestry was evident when he refused to marry Hindu women & ensured all of his official wives were Muslims with foreign roots.
14/n
In contrast, Obama always considered himself American first. He adopted Christianity, despite Muslim ancestry. He created policies to empower Americans of all religions & oppose Islamic terrorism. He spoke for freedom of speech even if it was critical of religions like Islam
15/n
Akthar’s tweet is at best delusional or at worst a deliberate motivated agenda to distort the history of Mughal contempt towards India. The Mughals never wanted to belong to India & instead celebrated their foreign ancestry as a symbol of Islam’s dominance over Hindu India.

Ever heard the song “Kajra mohabbat wala …” where the lyrics go “Chadhti javani ki ye, Pehli bahar le ke, Dilli sheher ka sara Meena bazaar le ke” Do you know the history of the real Meena Bazaar & its connection to Akbar the “Great”?
2/n
Col. Tod describes that Akbar held it every year on “Nav Roz” , a Persian festival started by Humayun. The fair was held for 9 days in the bazaar of Agra fort where Rajput ladies, nobles and harem girls set up stalls of fabrics, handicrafts & jewelry from their native lands.
3/n
It was by Akbar's rule that no man could enter these fair grounds, except for the Emperor himself. 30,000 women visited the fair every year inside the Agra fort. The entire purpose of the festival was to pick out & force women into Akbar’s harem.

Bhagwan Skanda is revered by Hindus for millennia, but did you know that he is the primary deity of the ancient Yezidi culture. Today Yezidis are known for being savagely victimized by ISIL, but they have a long history as remnants of an ancient culture with Hindu roots.
2/n
In Yezidi religion, Melek Ta’us is regarded as the greatest among archangels and an emanation of God Himself. Melek/Malik is an ancient Semite god of Babel and Canaan. It resembles the old Tamil word Malaiklavon, another name for Murugan, an ancient name of Skanda.
3/n
Yezidi consider Melek Ta’us  (Skanda) as an avatar of the eternal God (Shiva). He is represented by a blue peacock. But the Yezidis lived in lands which had no blue peacocks, they are native only to the Indian subcontinent. This indicates an ancient connection with India.

In school we were all taught that the word “Juggernaut”was simply an English mispronunciation of Bhagwan Jagannath of Puri whose Rath Yatra is one of the most famous festivals of Hindus. But do you know the horrific origins of the English word “Juggernaut” ?
2/n
For thousands of years Lord Jagannath, Balbhadra & Subhadra are placed on beautifully decorated chariots, and pulled through the streets of Puri by devotees, so that all devotees can get a Darshan of the sacred family. The English first saw this spectacle in the early 1800s.
3/n
When the British invaders first saw the Rath Yatra they could not believe their eyes at the grandeur. Reverend Claudius Buchanan, an Anglican missionary was the first British official to use the word “Juggernaut” in the West in the early 1800s.

Several historians have glorified Sher Shar Suri as a “secular” king who built many roads & was a stellar administrator. But the facts paint a horrifying story of a ruler who was a murderous tyrant utilizing slaughter & enslavement of Hindus as a way to gain power & wealth.
2/n
Sher Shah’s real name was Farid Khan, the son of Jagirdar Hasan at Sasaram, Bihar. They were Pathans from Afghanistan & devout Muslims - well versed scholars in Arabic & Persian. From a young age Farid Khan was ambitious & began his career by robbing travelers on the highway.
3/n
He was in charge of his fathers Jagir & would plunder the wealth of Hindu villages to capture women and children & sell them in the lucrative slave markets. His uniquely devious method consisted of encircling the village, killing adult males & branding women & children slaves

For all those clamoring at the immense value of English & sneering down at Indians who are not fluent in it, perhaps a refresher on the type of hatred that the British had towards our native languages especially Sanskrit will be illuminating. In Macaulay's words:
2/n
"To encourage the study of Sanskrit literature, admitted to be of small intrinsic value, only because that literature inculcated the most serious errors on the most important subjects, is a course hardly reconcilable with reason"
3/n
It is hardly reconcilable with morality, or even with that very neutrality which ought, as we all agree, to be sacredly preserved. It is confirmed that a language (Sanskrit) is barren of useful knowledge. We are to teach it because it is fruitful of monstrous superstitions?

One of the forgotten traditions of ancient India is the breeding & training of expert dogs for hunting & tracking. It has been a warrior tradition for thousands of years. One of the earliest mentions is in the Ramayana, where Bharata is presented with a group of hunting dogs
2/n
Such royal hounds were bred by his grandfather & are described as huge dogs with fang like spears & the strength & courage of tigers. They come from the Kaikeya country (R 2:64:21). This pastime of hunting with a pack of expertly trained hounds was called Shvaganika.
3/n
Shvaganika was a favorite pastime of Kshatriyas. In the Mahabharata, a hunting party of Kauravas & Pandavas is accompanied by a dog & its keeper. (Mbh 1,123,15) The practice is also mentioned by Panini (Panini 4:4:11 ) & Kalidasa also refers to it in his poetry.
