NEW: ATF Agents Corroborate Existence of Racial Complaint Against Biden Director Nominee, Fear Reprisals and Hit to Agency Effectiveness thereload.com/atf-agents-cor…
“He made some comments that he was surprised by the number of African Americans who have made it onto a specific promotional list,” a current ATF official said. “So, his insinuation was that they had to have cheated. Which is kind of despicable.” thereload.com/atf-agents-cor…
This is the first time claims that one of Chipman's Equal Employment Opportunity Commission complaints was related to racist comments have been corroborated. There is a FOIA lawsuit seeking the release of them. thereload.com/atf-agents-cor…
Chipman has confirmed the complaints exist but hasn't detailed what they involved. He said "both complaints were resolved without any finding of discrimination, and no disciplinary action was taken against me" in response to questions from Senator Ted Cruz (R., Texas).
ATF told me it "cannot comment on nominees." DOJ and the White House did not respond to my request for comment and my request for the release of the complaints against Chipman. thereload.com/atf-agents-cor…
The agents said the complaint came while he was working in Detroit. They said he was sent to Detroit against his will and then he left Detroit because of the complaints made against him. thereload.com/atf-agents-cor…

I guess some talking points went out. You guys should've double checked this first, though. It would be "peddle," not "pedal" in this context. Even my 100% subscriber-funded start-up, The Reload, can afford an editor...
The Reload hasn't taken a red cent from the "gun lobby" or any gun group for that matter. It is completely funded by reader subscriptions. If you want to help fund what we're doing, you should buy a subscription today! thereload.com/membership-sal…
With a subscription, you'll not only be the one actually funding The Reload but you'll get access to exclusive content including this brand new piece where an ATF agent explains why putting an activist in a position to determine "sporting purpose" is big. thereload.com/former-atf-age…
The president of Brady United responds to my report on ATF agents corroborating the existence of a complaint against David Chipman allegedly making racist remarks by attacking The Reload as an "extremist rag designed to pedal gun lobby lies."
It's important to note that Chipman himself has admitted there were two complaints filed against him with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The question is what those complaints were which we can't know for sure unless they're released. thereload.com/atf-agents-cor…
A lawsuit claimed last month that Chipman said too many black agents passed an assessment for promotion and they, therefore, must have cheated. I asked around to see if any other ATF agents had heard this story before the lawsuit. They did and I reported that.
ATF agents I spoke to, even ones who worked with him, view David Chipman's turn as a paid gun-control activist with confusion and distrust. "No one can even nail down who knows him, who hung out with him, who he was buds with," one said. thereload.com/atf-agents-cor…
Two ATF agents who worked with Chipman said his support for strict gun-control laws and new gun bans didn't begin until he left the agency and got hired by a gun-control group. The turnabout concerns them. thereload.com/atf-agents-cor…
"When I’m talking to my folks everyone’s scratching their head like he’s this Manchurian Candidate," one agent said of Chipman. "No one can even nail down who knows him, who hung out with him, who he was buds with." thereload.com/atf-agents-cor…
I've reached out to the Senators who remain undecided on Chipman's nomination for their reaction to the story as well. Still waiting to hear back from Senators Manchin, Tester, and King.
Senator Tester's office responded to my comment request on the allegations Chipman made racist remarks by referring me to the senator's previous statement saying he was still reviewing Chipman's record.
I went to the first-ever Gun Makers Match. Here's my deep dive and some extra pictures from the event: thereload.com/a-ghost-gun-co…
"I’m much more concerned that the government could disarm its people,” Rodriguez said. “I think once you’re disarmed, you’re a slave.” thereload.com/a-ghost-gun-co…
"A big part of it was showing that this is everyday gun owners, showing all the things that can be done legally," @PincusRob said.
The Black Rifle Coffee guys come off looking pretty good in this New York Times Magazine profile. The more they push against the lunatic fringe, the more I like them. nytimes.com/2021/07/14/mag…
The kicker is pretty lame but this is probably the best treatment try could've hoped for from The New York Times. This is why I think people are usually better off talking to reporters so long as the reporter has a reputation for fairness.
I don't particularly care if people buy their coffee or not. I've always thought they had a cool brand and products but I don't have any ad deals with them or anything like that. Never have. I just really like when people on the right stand up to the loons.
