Yes, @newsweek confirmed that Cashe is set to be the first black service member since Vietnam to receive the Medal of Honor - the family is notified and the White House is working to schedule a ceremony date. newsweek.com/exclusive-fall…
Many veterans and officials privately expressed that they were concerned that if the medal had been presented under Trump that he would’ve used the ceremony to attack.
Lastly, while we couldn’t quote them, the specifics were confirmed, in writing. I’m sure other journalists who ask the same people will receive the same answer.
PS - this language is both specific and not mine and was received in writing: “White House is working to schedule a ceremony date.”
You don’t schedule a ceremony if the SecDef and President haven’t signed off. Just saying.
I don’t understand why my reporting butt hurt so many people other than they’re just weirdly jealous. I would never report if I wasn’t sure and that the family was aware.

It is hard to see that the next Mayor will not have to change the culture of the NYPD and refocus their priorities. A lot of really big ideas out there.
I think @mayawiley has carved out a clear position on how she thinks the NYPD should be changed. Her knowledge of the ins and outs should be no surprise as she ran the Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB) politico.com/states/new-yor…
I’m looking forward to discuss my work on intelligence driven police policy for combatting gun violence with @AndrewYang this week. I welcome the opportunity to speak with any candidate.
There is an opportunity for NYC to lead in how the NYPD prioritizes taking on real crime (like guns coming into our city) AND changing its culture of profiling and targeting minority communities. I am happy to discuss these ideas with anyone who will listen.
Guns are a scourge and like many cities with strict gun laws, the guns are flowing into our city from areas with lax or no gun laws. The goal shouldn’t just be getting guns off the street but keeping them from getting to the streets. That’s where intelligence and data come in.
Update: @NewJerseyOAG confirms that the assailant was arrested and is facing simple assault charges. No comment from @GovMurphy or @NJSP. Unbelievably sources tell me Callahan thinks he will now be confirmed and is acting as nothing is has happened.
Here are the emails from @NewJerseyOAG and @MCPOCAU. A source tells me they expect charges to be upgraded bc of severity of attack and wounds inflicted on the victim.
It is mind boggling that @GovMurphy will not remove Callahan. But that may have to do with any number of rumors I’ve heard of Callahan helping Murphy with personal matters. Beyond that is perplexing that he would keep him around.
“I can only imagine” a very sympathetic officer comforting Travis McMichael who had just chased and shot #AhmaudArbery, while the young black man lay dying on the road.
“Why would he be in cuffs?” Another officer says of McMicjael who had just shot #ahmaudarbery. Police sympathize with the literal blood on his hands, and generally treat it as a fender bender. It is grotesque. washingtonpost.com/national/newly…
It wasn’t until natl outrage prompting the Georgia Bureau of Inv to take the case, that the men were arrested. The father was a former law enforcement officer but the DA found the murder “justified”, and that’s where it would’ve stayed if not 4 the video. nbcnews.com/news/us-news/w…
Last summer I wrote about an alleged sex assault assailant, son of a Repub dealmaker, whose charges were dropped by prosecutor in a cloud of corruption pulling in current NJ top cop. That suspect allegedly brutalized another woman 2 days ago and I am sick. newsweek.com/nj-man-charged…
That Top Cop who punished troopers for trying to do their job and warmly met with prosecutors who were alleged to be corrupt (who dropped charges) - he’s still the top NJ cop, in spite of all this. newsweek.com/top-nj-state-c…
The AG spent $270K trying to clear this Top Cop, and kicked off the investigation 6 days after our June story. 2 of the 7 troopers who tried to do their job for the victim, still have admin charges pending from this Top Cop. newsweek.com/new-jersey-ag-…
