Peru's Castillo names far-left PM; no finance minister in cabinet

reuters.com/world/europe/p…
Pedro Castillo named Guido Bellido, a member of his Marxist party, as prime minister on Thursday, dimming hopes of a moderate administration, and swore in most of his cabinet, but did not name a finance minister.
The lack of an economy czar is likely to create uncertainty in Peruvian markets about the future of Castillo's administration, who as a candidate campaigning for a self-described Marxist-Leninist party had already spooked investors.
Castillo also named Ivan Merino as energy and mines minister, a little-known mining specialist who is close to Free Peru, according to local news site IDL-Reporteros.
The Free Peru Party is led by Vladimir Cerron, a neurosurgeon and Marxist who is an admirer of the governments of Cuba and Venezuela.

...that policy makers won’t let the sensitivities of those in the capital markets and rich capitalists stand in the way of doing what they believe is best for the most people of the country."

Workers from union 1 of Minera Escondida rejected the latest offer presented by mining company BHP Billiton and approved the strike. With 2,164 votes in favor and only 11 against, the option to go on strike was accepted this Saturday night.
"This overwhelming result demonstrates once again the high union awareness of our bases, which have been able to appreciate that this offer does not contain any progress in the legitimate demands of the workers," the union said in a statement.
