I resigned from my position as Homeland Security & Covid TF advisor to Mike Pence a year ago this week for a number of reasons, but the main one being b/c I cared about protecting the lives of Americans. I'll undoubtedly get more threats for this 🧵but I need to say it. (1/8)
The messengers that turned fighting the #COVID19 pandemic into a politically divisive issue in 2020 were putting your lives at risk on a daily basis. Unfortunately, these voices & this trend continues still today. It's hurting our ability to overcome this pandemic. (2/8)
The Delta variant is more contagious & more dangerous. Our frontline healthcare workers have been in this fight from the beginning & continue to face this head on unwaveringly. We need to help them in overcoming this pandemic. I believe we're better than this as a country. (3/8)
It is awful & tragic to see the regrets that unvaccinated people have when they're on their covid deathbed. I'm grateful for the doctors/nurses & their commitment to helping those who have specifically chosen to not protect themselves, at the expense of others. (4/8)
It is incredibly selfish to willingly participate in the spreading of Covid19, allowing it to mutate, due to being anti-mask/anti-vaccine out of spite, anger, disinformation & miseducation. Pls protect yourself & others. Also, long covid is real-so many continue to suffer. (5/8)
This virus is horrific-I've seen this battle from day one. I'm concerned about what the current covid case numbers mean for what we will face in the coming months, especially for states w/ lower vaccination rates. Deaths will be even higher than last year if this continues.(6/8)
If you're a Governor (Abbott, Noem, DeSantis, etc)/ leader in these states (i.e. Republican Party members of Congress who are participating in the charades against masks) & continue to push divisive rhetoric on measures that could protect your residents...(7of8)
There is no excuse for your ongoing negligent behavior. As Republican officials-@HouseGOP-you know better. Your actions are part of what enabled this #COVID19 pandemic & you have the power to help change it. Protecting the lives of Americans shouldn't be a political issue. (8of8)

🧵Donald Trump is denying any ties to Project 2025—an extremist policy agenda masquerading as a traditional conservative platform. Trump has realized that this is a liability for him with voters, but the cat’s out of the bag. As someone who worked with these people when they first attempted to start implementing some of these policies, here’s a reminder of who the authors are behind Project 2025:
2. The key directors & contributors on Project 2025 are from the Trump Admin & they include:
•Paul Dans-Director of Project 2025: fmr Chief of Staff at the Office of Personnel Management
•Spencer Chretien-Associate Director of Project 2025: fmr special assistant to President Trump
•John McEntee-fmr Director of Presidential Personnel Office
•Russell Vought-fmr Director of OMB
•Chris Miller-(should need no introduction given his involvement on Jan 6) fmr acting Secretary of Defense
3. And here are a few more of the authors/contributors on Project 2025 from the Trump Admin:
•Ken Cucinelli- fmr acting Deputy Secretary of DHS under Trump
•Ben Carson- fmr Secretary of HUD who used to fall asleep in cabinet meetings.
•Peter Navarro- Currently in jail. Fmr Director of Trump’s WH Office of Trade & Manufacturing
•Frank Wuco- And let’s not forget this guy who served in various positions during the Trump Admin including at DHS, who is also famous for his conspiracies and “ask the Jihadist”. The list goes on and on.

Jan. 6 was one of the worst national security failures since Sept. 11. The January 6th report effectively exposes Trump; however, the national security section (stuck in the appendix) is devoid of any specific recommendations/conclusions & shockingly disappointing.
All the intel was there. What happened? There was a failure to act on it by DHS & the entire homeland security apparatus. This is a missed opportunity to fix the homeland enterprise & prevent this from happening again. None of this is really addressed in the January 6th report.
For starters, we need to have a frank conversation across our USG about how we will deal with domestic terrorism in our country. The extremist groups at the Capitol on Jan 6 have been emboldened. We need to shift our approach like we did post 9/11 in global counterterrorism.

🧵1of5:The latest reporting on these emails & testimonies on the extent to which former Trump WH officials interfered with CDC guidances & the Covid19 pandemic response is the truth. Many of us witnessed this first hand & it should never be forgotten...
politico.com/news/2021/11/1…
(2of4):There was not a single aspect of the CDC's Covid19 pandemic response that these former Trump Admin officials didn't politicize or obstruct such as: guidance on meatpacking facilities/churches/cruise ships/schools--to even changing the Morbidity & Mortality Weekly Reports..
(3of4):The CDC Morbidity & Mortality Reports are considered sacred to the medical community & these fmr Trump Admin officials didn't care. The rising number of cases & deaths was an inconvenient truth. Changing these reports sets a very dangerous precedent for our country.

1:A year ago today-my life & career would be forever changed when I made the decision to speak out publicly as someone who served in the Trump White House. Taking on a vindictive man, his inner circle & Trumpism isn’t easy but choosing country over party matters most still today.
2:Over the past year, many of the atrocities & horrifying stories that happened during the Trump Admin. have surfaced. We need to remember that Trumpism is far from being defeated. It continues to pose a grave danger to our country & our democracy as exhibited esp on Jan 6.
3:Many of you remain committed to countering the ongoing lies, misinformation & efforts to undermine those who take a stand for the truth. As someone who came forward-I’m grateful for the support you’ve given me & others who’ve taken a stand. Thanks especially-@AccountableGOP.

🧵There were cabinet mtgs about this during the Trump Admin where Stephen Miller would peddle his racist hysteria about Iraq & Afghanistan. He & his enablers across gov’t would undermine anyone who worked on solving the SIV issue by devastating the system at DHS & State.(1/7) Image
I tracked this issue personally in my role during my WH tenure. Pence was fully aware of the problem. We got nowhere on it because Trump/S. Miller had watchdogs in place at DOJ, DHS, State & security agencies that made an already cumbersome SIV process even more challenging.(2/7)
I met w/ numerous external organizations during my White House tenure who advocated for refugees & pleaded for help in getting US allies through the process. I got the phone calls & letters as the homeland security & CT advisor to Pence…(3/7)

If people want to criticize & talk about “border crisis” photo ops—let’s all remember that trip with former Vice President Pence & the smug Republican Senators (Hawley, Graham, etc) who stood staring at the detained immigrants like they were caged animals. (1of4)
I grew up on the El Paso border. The city has shouldered a lot of the effects of the Trump Admin’s abhorrent anti-immigration efforts to include child separation, the asylum deals they cut & a mass shooting by a domestic terrorist espousing a white supremacy manifesto…(2of4)
The statements by Trump Republicans & DHS fmr officials about the El Paso VP Harris visit show their ineptitude & the maliciousness with which they approach immigration. They allowed Stephen Miller to dictate the policies for years & they went along with it.(3of4)
