Jan. 6 was one of the worst national security failures since Sept. 11. The January 6th report effectively exposes Trump; however, the national security section (stuck in the appendix) is devoid of any specific recommendations/conclusions & shockingly disappointing. All the intel was there. What happened? There was a failure to act on it by DHS & the entire homeland security apparatus. This is a missed opportunity to fix the homeland enterprise & prevent this from happening again. None of this is really addressed in the January 6th report.

Pence was fully aware of the problem. We got nowhere on it because Trump/S. I resigned from my position as Homeland Security & Covid TF advisor to Mike Pence a year ago this week for a number of reasons, but the main one being b/c I cared about protecting the lives of Americans. I'll undoubtedly get more threats for this 🧵but I need to say it. If people want to criticize & talk about “border crisis” photo ops—let’s all remember that trip with former Vice President Pence & the smug Republican Senators (Hawley, Graham, etc) who stood staring at the detained immigrants like they were caged animals.
