Thread: Israeli forces killed 16-year-old Palestinian teenager Said Yousef Mohammad Odeh on May 5, 2021. Now, his family, friends, and community are reflecting on Said's life.
His mother asks, "What did he do to justify his killing? He was just 16 years old."
Said's cousin, Munther, was shot in the back by Israeli soldiers while trying to carry Said to safety.
"We were standing here, and suddenly, the army came out from under the olive trees."
Israeli forces blocked paramedics from accessing Said after he was shot. The paramedic who finally reached him, Faiz, was surprised to see the person lying on the ground was his nephew, Said.
Said's father said he and his wife broke down crying in the hospital when they realized Said had been killed.
Khaled, Said's friend and football teammate, misses his friend every day and wears a necklace in his honor that says, "My life is dark without you."
Khaled stopped playing football after Said's killing until Said's mother called him and urged him to continue.
No one has been held accountable for Said's killing. Israeli forces are rarely held accountable for grave violations against Palestinian children, including unlawful killings and excessive use of force. dci-palestine.org/israeli_forces…

THREAD: Israeli authorities have agreed to release 150 Palestinian prisoners, including children, as part of a four-day truce agreement with Hamas.
Israeli forces detain, interrogate, prosecute, and imprison 500-700 Palestinian children between the ages of 12-17 each year.
Imprisoning Palestinian children is business as usual for Israel forces, who enjoy complete impunity for violating children’s rights. We welcome the release of Palestinian children & demand an end to the Israeli military detention system that has imprisoned children for decades.
Israeli forces currently hold about 30 children in administrative detention, a form of detention without charge of trial where Palestinians, including children, are held on “secret evidence.”
NEW: We just released a report asserting that Israeli authorities' systematic denial of fair trial rights to Palestinian children detained by Israeli forces constitutes arbitrary detention.
We collected affidavits from 766 Palestinian children detained by Israeli forces between 2016 and 2022.
75% endured some form of physical violence following arrest.
97% had no parent present during interrogation.
66% were not properly informed of their rights.
Every single one of these Palestinian children were subject to Israeli military law that denies basic and fundamental fair trial protections and guarantees and prosecuted in Israel’s military court system which is not independent or impartial.
Thread: So far this year, @DCIPalestine has documented the killings of 49 Palestinian children. From Jenin to Jerusalem to Gaza City, it has been a deadly year for Palestinian children. Here are their names, faces, and stories. #WorldChildrensDay
The first Palestinian child killed by Israeli forces in 2022 was Mohammad Akram Ali Taher Abu Salah, 16. Israeli forces shot him in the eye on February 13 in the village of Silat al-Harithiya near Jenin. dci-palestine.org/israeli_forces…
Israeli forces shot and killed 13-year-old Mohammad Rezq Shehadeh Salah on Feburary 22 in Al-Khader, near Bethlehem. After shooting him in the chest, Israeli forces removed his clothes and prevented an ambulance from reaching him. dci-palestine.org/israeli_forces…

Quzmar received a phone call at 2:25 pm local time from a Shin Bet agent summoning him for interrogation. He went to Israel's Ofer military base soon after...
An eyewitness at Ofer military base saw Quzmar escorted into Shin Bet premises around 3:20 pm. Quzmar was not allowed to have legal counsel accompany him. We are waiting for updates.

Alaa Abdullah Riyad Qaddoum, 5, was killed around 4:30 pm on August 5 by an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City. The Israeli airstrike hit a group of people outside Abu Samra mosque in the Wadi Al-Arayes area of Shuja’iyya neighborhood. #GazaUnderAttackdci-palestine.org/israeli_airstr…
“Israeli forces routinely use explosive weapons in densely populated civilian areas with complete disregard for the indiscriminate effects,” said Ayed Abu Eqtaish, accountability program director at DCIP. dci-palestine.org/israeli_airstr…
Odeh was walking with two friends about 100 meters from his home when Israeli forces deployed in the area opened fire on them. A single bullet struck Odeh in the back, striking his heart and exiting through his chest.
Palestinians in the area heard the gunshots and went to the area to help Odeh, but Israeli forces fired on them. After about 20 minutes, they were able to reach Odeh and transport him to a medical center in the nearby village of Ni’lin. dci-palestine.org/israeli_forces…
There was no ambulance or doctor on duty at the medical center so they headed toward Ramallah Hospital. About halfway to Ramallah, they met an ambulance that then rushed him to hospital.
