4/11 The piece claims that hospitals are exempt from the Equality Act (it even gets the name of the Act wrong) - implying that this ought therefore to give them carte blanche to ban trans women from female wards. Which they are not doing.

6/11 Under this act trans people should be treated "according to the gender role in which they present" and any exceptions to this should be on a "case by case basis" and only in "exceptional circumstances". If there ARE exceptional circumstances, they can apply them.

8/11 . As the article even mentions, where ANY service user has a history of sex offending, hospitals must carry out a risk assessment before deciding how to deliver treatment, irrespective of who they are.
9/11 If things go wrong (whoever is the perpetrator, though the Telegraph obviously is only interested in one tiny group of people), then the risk assessment is the first thing to look at, with improvements made.
10/11 The inference that it would be appropriate to ban an entire category of people in response is pure bigotry. As we have seen before, we have here an un fact-checked story, pumped up for maximum effect with a toxic headline, by a newspaper with a vicious anti-trans agenda.
