Moving to visit the Um Rakuba camp in Eastern #Sudan, which hosts thousands of refugees who escaped conflict in #Tigray.
I heard wrenching testimony from women refugees whose villages were raided by militia. Some saw loved ones executed, some were subjected to sexual assault, and nearly all crossed the border into #Sudan with nothing but the clothes on their backs.
The US is working with @UNFPA to support these women, including by funding critical medical supplies & safe spaces for their care. Overall we're assisting more than 46,000 people sheltering in camps in Eastern Sudan, along with UN @Refugees, NGOs, & the Sudanese govt.
The US has been pushing all parties in #Tigray toward an immediate ceasefire in the hopes that people like the Ethiopians I met here will be able to return home. The conflict has brought harrowing attacks against civilians, it is impacting millions, and it has to end.
