An online Panel Discussion on 'Cyber Frauds in Customs'
was organized by @AhmedabadDgts and @NacinVadodara today
Customs never make a call to people and demand for money, stated eminent panelists in a bid to raise awareness among citizens
Customs officials do not make calls and ask for instant money or ask for settlement. People receiving such calls from fraudsters should report it to the local police station or register a complaint in cybercrime.gov.in
Once a consignment is sent through a pvt. courier agency/@IndiaPostOffice, it's their job to get the documentation done, pay customs duty and complete the clearance process. No need to approach Customs, likewise they will also not approach you: Addl. Commissioner(Customs), Mumbai
#Customs officials at international airports do not make a call to people for anything. However, if a call is received, don't get panicked and first make a call to the PRO Helpdesk of airport site: Prabhakar Kumar, Addl. Commission of Customs, @CSMIA_Official
Fraudsters may also send fake document in the name of #Customs. But, any correspondence sent from Customs will have a Document Identification Number (DIN) which has a 20-digit code, that can be verified from cbic.gov.in: Addl. Commission (Customs), @CSMIA_Official
Many #CyberCrimes in the form of luring someone to claim a fake gift parcel by merely paying the #Customs Duty, or financially draining a person with regards to non-existent international visitor have been reported: Dr. Rajesh Verma, Addl. DG, DGTS, Mumbai
#Customs has very little to do with frauds/scams carried out in their name. The fraudsters only impersonate Customs officials & use their name. These frauds are generally carried out by professionals who have multiple identities and are forensically very alert: @Brijeshbsingh
Be careful about how much information you share over #SocialMedia. #CyberCriminals feed on your information and hit on your soft-spot and that is how crimes are committed. Also, do not share any compromising information: Khushbu Jain, Advocate, SC, Partner Ark Legal
