The Craft Guilds (original Trade Unions) have a long history of persecution. The Unlawful Oaths Act of 1797 was created to limit the growth of the guilds and lodges- mutual aid societies. Many were fined or imprisoned for challenging the monopoly of Royal-Church power.
Prior to this geometry and mathematics was seen as a form of witchcraft and many were tortured and burned at the stake.
