#TIL Syed Jaafar Albar, a Malay Ultra, came from Makassar just like Najib Razak's ancestors. He came to Singapore as an immigrant when he was 14.
The Malay Ultras of 1960s: 1) Dr Mahathir Mohamed - Indian descent 2) Syed Jaafar Albar - Indonesian descent 3) Syed Nasir bin Syed Ismail - Yemeni descent 4) Musa Hitam - Javanese and Chinese descent.
😁
Not really sure about the family of Syed Nasir but the rest of the Ultras and their families ended up extremely Rich including many in billionaires' list.
Najib is a court-sanctioned billionaire when the courts returned hundreds of millions of assets back to him.
Zahid Hamidi, a later day Malay-Ultra from Indonesia is also a billionaire.
Even in 1963, Singapore as a nation was rich and had 400 million Straits Dollars in their reserve. @TheTunku wanted Lee Kuan Yew to lend 50 million to East Malaysia. After much haggling, Lee agreed to give as a loan with special conditions attached. dailyexpress.com.my/read/3331/anot…
Today they are keeping it as closely guarded secret their reserves but it is estimated to be more than SGD1 trillion based on consistent annual surplus budget they get approved in their parliament. Malaysia forever deficit budget! (ie we are leaving debts to future generations)
"When borrowing is not used productively, the result has often been high debt-low growth, rather than high growth-low debt."
Barry Wain in The Malaysian Maverick: "Looking back, political scientist John Funston found that the reason for the lack of Malay progress was that UMNO did not have control of the political system, despite what was almost universally believed."
"While UMNO fielded most candidates in elections and had a decisive majority of Cabinet slots, it was the Chinese partner, the MCA, that provided most of the Alliance funds and held the two key portfolios, Finance, and Commerce and Industry."
"And while it was true that power was concentrated in the hands of Tunku Abdul Rahman, he was no typical Malay and did not always represent their interests."
In the elections 4 years after Singapore was expelled and PAP retreated leaving its splinter group DAP here, MCA got nearly wiped out. If LKY remained here in that GE, it could have been far worse for UMNO and MCA. malaysianbar.org.my/article/news/l…
They pulled an emergency and democracy was suspended for two years. When they came back, they pulled Gerakan and PAS back into their fold and BN remained strong until 2018.
I came to believe that it was the Malay Ultras who caused the split between Malaysia and Singapore in 1965. After talking to an elder and reading up some materials, it appears that it was more sinister than simplistic view of Malay ultras being the sole cause.
In 1965, UMNO did not have money. They have not instituted money politics yet. Things like GLCs and privatisation has not happened. Without money, how did they do their politics?
The money came from the Chinese tycoons through MCA. MCA controlled the purse. They had huge say in national politics. And the political situation was the same like today, whereby the Chinese masses swamped to PAP rallies rather than MCA.
Even before the Pandemic, Malaysia's total debts stood at RM1 trillion. That's equivalent to a debt of RM156,000 per family in Malaysia. This doesn't include your own personal debt.
How did an oil and mineral rich country ended up with so much debt? BN thieves is the answer.
On the contrary, Singapore which was kicked out from Malaysia exactly 56 years ago now owns a secret reserve of around SGD1.48 trillion. theonlinecitizen.com/2021/04/02/sin…
When VLE Frog was around, teachers forced the students to access the system at least once a month. The teachers even threatened to deduct marks if the students don't do it. But there was no substance in the system.
Students found the system to be annoying, often inaccessible, too many bugs and simply wasting time. The parents who were discerning too found it the same way. It was a useless system.
Then why did the teachers forced the students to access the system at least once a month for nothing? The teachers themselves were under pressure from the Education Ministry.
