Yet another study showing the strong and durable protection provided by natural immunity: medrxiv.org/content/10.110… 1/
10457 essential workers in Geneva, Switzerland because their occupations required "sustained physical proximity" with others). 2/
After a follow-up period of over 27 weeks, 5 (0.6%) seropositive and 830 (8.5%) seronegative individuals had a positive SARS-CoV-2 test" 3/
"Seropositive essential workers had a 93% reduction in the hazard (HR of 0.07, 95% CI 0.03 to 0.17) of having a positive test during follow-up with no significant between-occupational group difference." 4/
"Conclusions: A ten-fold reduction in the hazard of being virologically tested positive was observed among anti-SARS-CoV-2 seropositive essential workers... confirming the seroprotective effect of a previous SARS-CoV2 exposure at least six months after infection." 5/
Its generally recognized that natural immunity provides better protection against SARS-CoV-2 variants than vaccination with a narrow vaccine designed to target the now-extinct original variant because natural immunity recognizes the entire complement of proteins. 1/
But some people still have trouble understanding why that is. This marvelous cellular-level analysis that was just posted a couple of days ago is really informative to explain the underlying process. cure-hub.com/post/sars-cov-… 2/
The whole thing is worth reading carefully and analyzing all of the data and Figures that usefully illustrate the concepts. 3/
biorxiv.org/content/10.110… "We conclude that memory antibodies selected over time by natural infection have greater potency and breadth than antibodies elicited by vaccination."
"We examine memory B cell evolution 5 months after vaccination with ... mRNA vaccines in a cohort of SARS-CoV-2 naïve individuals."
"Between prime and boost, memory B cells produce antibodies that evolve increased neutralizing activity, but there is no further increase in potency or breadth thereafter. Instead, memory B cells that emerge 5 months after vaccination of naïve individuals express antibodies..."
What do we know specifically about the safety of Covid vaccines as applied to previously infected (and recovered) individuals? 1/
We don't know anything from the trials because those with a history of prior infection: "The studies excluded participants with... participants with a known history of SARS-CoV-2 infection." ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P… 2/
GMU's mandatory vaccination policy recognizes any vaccine approved by the World Health Organization. But not natural immunity. Which probably makes you wonder--what does the WHO think about natural immunity?
Well it turns out that the WHO has a "Scientific Brief" from May 10, 2021 entitled "COVID-19 natural immunity": who.int/publications/i…
"Within 4 weeks following infection, 90-99% of individuals infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus develop detectable neutralizing antibodies."
Just to make clear--if I did not have natural immunity (which is equal or superior protection than any existing vaccine) I would have chosen to be vaccinated despite the risks.
But after an antibody screening test and consulting with my doctor, I believe it is medically unnecessary and has an elevated risk of side effects compared to non-survivors. #screenB4vaccine
I'm not your doctor and I don't know your medical history. So I'm not going to tell you what's right for you. And I believe the science: I have robust natural immune protection and I believe the dozen-plus studies that show that your decision has minimal impact on me.
I have a constitutional right to bodily integrity and state agencies such as George Mason University have to have a compelling reason to coerce me to undergo a medical procedure. Especially after reaching that decision in consultation with my personal doctor who knows my history.
Why do I feel coerced? The original press release from the University stated--in all bold type to make sure I didn't miss it--...
"Following university policies and procedures, disciplinary action will be pursued against those faculty and staff who fail to receive an exemption and do not disclose their status and receive the vaccine. This action could include unpaid leave or possible loss of employment."
