From February: a breakdown of the acclaim Cuomo got for his handling of the pandemic, after the AP had reported on his office’s undercounting of deaths.
Governor Cuomo has resigned. The same outlets & talking heads who fawned endlessly over him are, suddenly, cheering along to his undoing, without a whiff of self-awareness for their role in making him into an icon.
Look at these 180s⤵️
You can’t start with anyone but @CNN. Perhaps no one gave more free air time to Cuomo to build him into a hero as an antidote to Trump.
Perhaps they’ve since forgotten.
I mean. Does anyone think that this is journalism? Are we reporting on the news here @CNN?
I know it may seem straight out of Curb Your Enthusiasm, but the supposed-racist-barrage-turned-innocent-fan-behavior this weekend in Colorado says a lot about the media.
I try to unpack why after some highlights from the unfounded outrage. ⤵️
For those unaware: over the weekend, a fan reportedly called an MLB player a racial slur. Not 24 hours later, the team concluded he was just calling out the name of the team’s mascot, Dinger.
But if you read the @nytimes, that the story was even in doubt likely escaped you.
But, as ever, it wasn’t just the Times. Not to be outdone, @CNN also got in on the act, making the same allegation.
Again, no hesitation, no couched language, no waiting for the story to play out with additional information. Just confident - and totally misplaced - assurance.
@NYGovCuomo thinks he can survive the bombshell report about his sexual misconduct from his own state AG because lots of corporate media outlets have worked hard to deceive the country into thinking Gov. Cuomo is a hero.
Don’t remember? Read on ⤵️
The only place to start is with @CNN, where Cuomo’s brother @ChrisCuomo works.
I’m sure you all remember what the love fest looked like back then. This is meant to be straight news coverage!
And of course it wasn’t just the network. There were plenty of their main voices who chimed in.
Perhaps the staunchest supporter proved to be @ananavarro, even after the sexual harassment allegations surfaced.
We’ve all seen the various flip-flops of the CDC and Dr. Anthony Fauci over the last 18 months.
To help keep track, I present “Fauci vs. Fauci,” chronicling the twists, turns, contradictions and backtracks from the man and his agency.⤵️
To start, we need to focus on Dr. Fauci’s perspective on the virus itself and it’s risk to the United States.
In late January 2020, Fauci said that COVID was a “very, very low risk to the United States.”
I think it goes without saying that his perspective has evolved since.
One big, obvious area of flipping is around the benefits of wearing a mask. Dr. Fauci originally said that masks weren’t effective & publicly encouraged Americans not to buy them (guidance he doesn’t regret).
No idea why people on the street look at me funny as I shout “I AM TOUGHER THAN SIMONE BILES” repeatedly
Even when I point out that I mean both MENTALLY and PHYSICALLY people seem confused
I have my keyboard visibly displayed so that they can see that I am, in fact, a warrior and yet no one is giving me affirmation EVEN AS I RAISE MY VOICE
