My colleagues and I attempted an unannounced visit to Lee Arrendale State Prison today. We’ve heard horrifying reports about the conditions here.
We were denied entry and told all visits have to be scheduled. The warden wouldn’t explain why. But we know why. 1/3
The reason we were turned away is that the GDC has a culture of unaccountability for the death and rights violations of happening day after day in its prisons. Refusing to allow scrutiny of the inedible food, moldy walls, illegal solitary confinement of postpartum mothers. 2/3
My colleagues and I won’t give up on these issues. Our caucus is forming a special committee to address them.
This state can’t claim to care about public safety until it addresses the record level of violence and rights violations happening in facilities it controls. 3/3

Remember that form I needed to mail to the GA Secretary of State (as pre-addressed) or else my voter registration would go inactive? Here’s what happened: I went to the SOS in person and was informed I was in the wrong place — needed to go to Fulton Board of Elections. 1/
I asked what would have happened to the form (with my ssn and/or driver’s license no.) if I had mailed it. The SOS rep said “we would just mail it to Fulton.” 2/
So I went to the Fulton Board of Elections today in person with my card. While there:
- the associate who took my card said she didn’t know how to input my information if there was no change of address (my info on the card was the same as registered) 3/
