The implication of these tweets by @tribelaw and @danielsgoldman is that a criminal investigation of DJT has not yet been launched and that, left to its own devices, DOJ is ready to let Trump skate. I’d be shocked if that were true.
I don’t think it’s constructive, at this juncture, to insinuate that DOJ is supine on Trump’s insurrection crimes. If @tribelaw’s and @danielsgoldman’s intention was to stir public opinion in favor of prosecution, and so support the DOJ, all well and good.
But to do so by suggesting that DOJ is, thus far, inert on the most consequential set of crimes in our history is unhelpful, IMO. There are more constructive ways to rally support for DOJ prosecution of Trump.
If @tribelaw and @danielsgoldman do have information that there is not yet a DOJ investigation of Trump, they should be transparent about it. I’d certainly like to know if that is the case. All hell will break loose, but that’s as it should be.

THREAD. I asked the USG Office of Government Ethics if a gift from a foreign government, accepted by someone mere days before assuming a senior USG position, would be reportable by a 'New Entrant' in his/her initial financial disclosure form. To my surprise, the answer is 'No.'
Here's the link to the instructions for filling out the 'New Entrant Report.' Note that in every other disclosure category, New Entrants are required to report on their compensation, etc. for some period *prior* to commencement of govt. service. oge.gov/Web/278eGuide.…
For 'gifts' (item 9 in the list of disclosure categories), however, there is NO disclosure requirement. New Entrants are instructed to leave that field blank. In subsequent financial disclosure reports, reporting persons must report all gifts of more than a few hundred $'s.
Barr’s first act upon becoming AG was to shut down Mueller’s OSC. His second act was to withhold Mueller’s report so he could materially misrepresent its findings to the American people. At some point, he must be required to give sworn testimony about these events.
Horrific forest fire situation in Turkey. 13 major fires now. I share @ClaireBerlinski's doubts re. PKK responsibility, but (as the thread illustrates) there's heavy suspicion. The likely truth is even more worrying than a PKK attack: the planet is spontaneously combusting.
Now, as @ClaireBerlinski says, "It's fire season." There are forest fires every summer in Turkey, Greece and elsewhere in the Mediterranean. But the fires across Turkey now are more numerous, larger and more intense than usual. Very scary.
@SimonLite strikes a balanced note, saying people shouldn't jump too hastily to conclusions of arson ("eco-terrorism" etc.).
Not mentioned: acoustic analysis of the VOA video shows a bodyguard leaning into the back seat of RTE’s limo to talk to RTE, then straightening up and calling out to the rest of the bodyguards: “Dalan diyor !” (“He says ‘plunge in’”!). They did so immediately.
@SenWhitehouse You have been by far the most persistent in raising questions about Kavanaugh’s fitness, and I thank you for it. The article below details your questioning of the then nominee’s personal finances. You asked many good questions. motherjones.com/politics/2018/…
Your 14 pages of questions, however, were put to him after the hearings. He answered evasively and incompletely (as the article describes). As a result, key questions are still unanswered. Why was there no sustained interrogation of Kavanaugh’s finances when it counted ?
Or was there close questioning of his finances in the closed door sessions before the public hearings ? If that’s the case, how could the (obvious) written questions you posed to him later have remained unexplored prior to his confirmation ?
We’ll see what the Select Committee is able to do in uncovering the leadership and funding of Jan. 6, and its GOP collaborators. It must not, however, serve as a substitute for criminal investigations of senior officials.
Have senior military officers been called for interviews on their interactions with civilian counterparts that day ? Uniformed personnel will cooperate, if questioned directly. Their info should be productive.
The DOJ investigations of Jan. 6 are centered in the U.S Attorney’s office for D.C. and the FBI’s Washington, D.C. field office. From published DOJ statements thus far, there’s no reason to believe they are investigating senior political figures’ involvement.
