What's not being stated is that Gov. Abbott is very quickly painting himself into a corner that he can't get out of.

Fighting the cities and counties will end up with more dead Texans.

Not fighting them or reversing course makes him look weak in the primary.
The more local governments fight him, the more others will feel comfortable defying him.

The more counties and cities he has to sue, the harder it becomes for him to eventually backtrack when the BODIES PILE TOO HIGH.
This is the very problem of Abbott's "Cold War" leadership style - every incident must be provoked and escalated.

There are no "cooler heads prevail" moments.
Everything is a proxy war.
Every battle must be fought.
Never discuss.
Never negotiate.
Never compromise.
What did other Republican governors do?

They changed course when the new data came out. When they saw the trend lines, they overcame the worse instincts of their own party and enacted measures to protect lives. Politics be damned.

Not Abbott.
Not DeSantis.

Politics over lives.

Hey @BriscoeCain ... Before you talk trash and make videos about me, maybe you need to explain to people how this ENTIRE DEBACLE is because of YOUR unmitigated incompetence in doing your ONE JOB.

The bill.
The bad blood.
The quorum break.

It was because of your negligence... Image
First, let's recognize that the entire membership was flabbergasted when you were picked to chair the elections committee.

Because prior to that, your greatest achievement in the House was... err... I guess being Stickland's little lapdog?

Following him around and yapping. 🐩📢
Because, despite being in the majority party, all you passed the prior session was legislation that did next to nothing.

Not exactly the "heavy lifts" that show off your skills and ability to manage a contentious bill... or even the basic leadership needed to be a chair. Image

The problems that have plagued the #TXLege this Session, including the quorum break, fall squarely at the foot Governor Abbott.

His lack of basic leadership skills and any meaningful diplomacy has taken an already precarious political tensions and shoved it over the cliff.
Abbott made the anti-voter legislation a priority.

Abbott directed the last minute changes to this bill during session that broke all trust and forced Dems to walk out the first time.

Abbott vetoed funding for the Legislature, further angering members.
Abbott put the same bill back on the Special Session, promising it would be more of the same.

Abbott refused to negotiate or meet with Democrats.

He, instead of lowering the temperature, threatened to arrest and jail Democratic members.

In a few more weeks, it won't matter that Governor Abbott issues illegal and unconstitutional orders.

By Sept. 20, Abbott will have successfully eliminated the LEGISLATIVE BRANCH OF GOVERNMENT, and there will be no checks on what he can do.

He will be King.
This is a crisis entirely of Gov. Abbott's making:

Abbott vetoed the budget.
Abbott called the special session.
Abbott put items on the call.
Abbott directed Republicans to act.
Abbott refuses to negotiate.

But, it's Abbott who stands to win no matter what.

He becomes King.
This play is exactly what Donald Trump would have done.

It doesn't matter how it will harm the state.
It doesn't matter how will harm Texans.

As long as he wins and gets more power, that's all that matters.

Let our mistake be the object lesson.

All of us had been fully vaccinated since March. We got complacent because we felt safe. We had no positives for months, and we got sloppy.

Being vaccinated doesn't ALWAYS stop you from spreading the virus.

ALWAYS MASK UP INDOORS!
Every member who tested positive had only mild (sniffles) or no symptoms.

This is because we've all been vaccinated and our bodies already had the anti-bodies ready to combat an infection.

But having antibodies doesn't stop you from shedding viruses until they done their job.
The lesson here is that:

🔵 Delta is more contagious & spreading fast
🔵 Vaccine will stop infection for ~90%
🔵 10% who get it will have mild symptoms
🔵 If vaccinated, still need to mask up indoors in case you're an ASYMPTOMATIC spreader
🔵 GET TESTED IMMEDIATE if any signs

COVID19 DELTA variant is spreading fast.

We are prepared for masking and distancing mandates and guidelines.

I hope you are too.
I assume that everyone "whistling past the graveyard" and laughing about Democratic members testing positive have already been fully vaccinated and have no complaints about mandatory masking provisions again.

Otherwise, it seems kinda like begging Karma to visit.
Being fully vaccinated would at least make the symptoms mild and not likely fatal.

My fist meal as a fugitive.

Delicious.
Now I have an idea what AG Ken Paxton must feel like every day... it's not bad.

No wonder he keeps committing more crimes.
Sorry. I meant "hamberder."
