You state: "As recommended by the National Institute of Health Research, we collect the following equality and diversity information to ensure that we involve people from as many different backgrounds and age groups as possible in shaping and advising on our research". 2/9
One of the questions you ask is: "What gender do you identify as?" with options:
Male
Female
Transwoman
Transman
Non-binary/Gender Variant
Not listed - feel free to specify 4/9
However, the @NIHRresearch page that you linked to states: 5/9
This does not list 'gender' or 'gender identity' but it does list sex, which you do not. 'Gender' is not a synonym for sex. 6/9
Sex is the protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010 and the only two possible options for sex are 'Female' and 'Male' as defined in the Act and consistent with biology. This has nothing to do with 'gender' and sex is not an 'identity'. 7/9
.@NIHRresearch also list 'gender reassignement', which is also a protected characteristic under the Act and which you do not list. 8/9
Can you explain the discrepancies between what you list and the @NIHRresearch guidance?
Male
Female
Non-binary
Prefer not to say
I prefer to self-identify as... 2/8
