Here is the thing with the Chelsea Rent Boys song.

There are lots of chants carried over from a time when society was different and football was quite ugly. And this is true of most teams.

They just kinda get passed along without anybody really thinking about what is being
sung.
"It is just a song."
"It is just banter"
"Always sang this and it was never a problem before" etc
Yep. Fans also used to kick the shit out each other before and after games, slash each other with stanley knives, throw coins and all manners of shit at each other. Make
monkey noises and throw bananas at black players.

They stopped doing that though because it was fucking abhorrent.

So if the LGBTQ community are highlighting that singing such things now are fucking abhorrent, we should listen to them.

This is just the latest thing carried
over from that time that needs to be looked at with fresh eyes and open minds to realise that it isn't what we want to be.

We don't need to play whataboutery here. The sign on, victims, murderers etc chants.

We need to be the change we want to see.

Data is invaluable. Seriously. It is unbiased and massive. One person simply wouldn't have the time in their life to watch every game of football every weekend to build up a comparable 'data set' in their own head to draw fair comparison of players.

The problem is always in how
good your data is and how good the person is at using it.

You can give the best, most accurate, most comprehensive set of data in the world to a fucking idiot. If they are setting out with the sole purpose of proving Sol Bamba > Virg they will find a way to dig out a few things
to prove themselves right and ignore everything that proves them wrong. It is just an exercise in confirmation bias, with cherry picked data.

Essentially you are only seeing that person's opinion. If they told you it without data, it wouldn't be any better than with data.

I hate Player Ratings based on data. Because the algorithm can weight things so you gets some ridiculous numbers - usually dribbles and aerial duels won for example. So Benteke can have a game where he wins 12 headers from goal kicks yet not touch the ball in the box and get 7 Image
But ratings based on the opinion of one person are usually absolutely fucking terrible piles of shite with absolutely no value at all.

There are so many human biases at play, literally hundreds, that impair your ability to give a fair assessment of what you are seeing.
If a player gives the ball away just FOUR times in midfield in a top-5 league game, that is impressive.

What almost all these people who underrate players like Gini (and before, Mauro Silva, Deschamps, etc) is that keeping the ball is a whole job. In fact if you have a

Here is the thing - it is just an opinion.

The hardest thing in any analysis is trying to separate out 'what I want' from what you are doing. If you don't like Liverpool you will find ways to justify them having a worse season than one in which they had unprecedented injuries.
So you assume that is their new base level AND more shit will go wrong on top of that. Players are one year older. Maybe this year they get injuries in the forward line too. Gini has left, etc. You push your own narrative and frame it as analysis and you don't even realise you
are doing it.

And the best example of this is supporting a team. You are hopeful. You start the season with belief. I genuinely believe we can win the league. I recognise it needs a few things to go our way - and I just believe they will... right up until the moment they don't.

Been talking about Dias for a while now and I see more and more people are starting to mention the same things. Defenders going to ground a lot look great when it works but cost you a LOT when they get it wrong. Dias is someone who can look good in a youtube comp, or terrible.
And I think the truth is still somewhere in between. I thought he was nowhere near the best player in the Premier League last season, I still would prefer Stones to him as a central defender, and still think he needs a guy next to him paying his debts - like Rio with Vidic.
When Rio was out, Vidic got badly exposed. When Vidic was out, Rio looked fine next to a Wes Brown or O'Shea.

Aggressive players look great when it works, and when the team around them can cover the cost when it doesn't.

Imagine:-

Harry Kane scoring the winner tomorrow

Then joining City

Then losing out on the league title by a point.
People bringing their realism into a tweet that's only instruction is 'imagine'. :D

Thoughts on the XI?

So many things I didn't see coming.

I didn't see Virg starting the season.
I didn't see Klopp going with this midfield - and I am a little worried about Milner as a 6.
I am surprised Firmino isn't starting - but had a feeling he wouldn't be here. Image
My assumption is the returning guys like Thiago, Hendo, Firmino and Fabinho missing pre-season means we will be slow in introducing them all.

I predicted 5-0 in my preview for this game btw. I almost never go with big scores but this thread explains why. Norwich's pre-season hasn't gone well, they struggled to name a subs bench in their last friendly and with so many new players it could take a
