We will continue to speak out, so everyone who is going to be subjugated can take heart that there will be speeches on their behalf.
The Afghan government we supported for 20 years is responsible for all this, but our leadership in the world and our support for our allies is unquestionable.
The Taliban is graciously supporting our exit. But if they don't allow us to humiliate ourselves, we will respond forcefully. And if they incubate terrorism, as our intelligence indicates they will, we will respond. Somehow. And it's gonna be serious, folks.
And I know this is heartbreaking for all the soldiers, humanitarians, and civil servants who contributed to Afghanistan's brief experiment with freedom. I feel your pain. And I fully intend to exacerbate it.
If you were foolish enough to work with us or if you're unable to access the airport in Kabul. Hang tight. We're working on it, even though you've likely already gone to ground to save your own skin.
And of course, our over the horizon anti-terror capabilities in central/south Asia will be fully preserved despite the presence of a hostile government that makes intelligence gathering all but prohibitively risky and unreliable.
Rarely have we witnessed such a discordant display of excuse-making festooned with false bravado amid a live, ongoing military crisis. One that we could act to prevent right this second if we would commit the resources. But that would be to admit fault. Can't have that.

A slightly nuanced take on the implosion of the Russia bounties story, which is indicative only of how discourse on this website is not only unhelpful but an obstacle to the fullest understanding of events. Apologies in advance, but it’s a thread…
When the story broke, my take on it was A) we shouldn’t know about it, because leaking this claim all but forecloses on the possibility of substantiating it sufficient to prove the charge. But also B) it’s *plausible.* commentarymagazine.com/noah-rothman/w… Here’s why…
If you recall, when the story dropped it was accompanied with the allegation that Iran was also putting a price on American heads. cnn.com/2020/08/17/pol… That allegation is supported by evidence and testimony going back to 2005 fdd.org/analysis/2010/…
What was Donald Trump doing between 2:26 p.m and 5:40 p.m. on January 6. Until we get the answer to that question, affirmed under oath by a witness to his conduct, this chapter in American history cannot be definitively closed.
2:26 p.m.: Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund: "I am making an urgent, urgent immediate request for National Guard assistance."
Interim: ????
5:40 p.m.: National Guard arrives at the capitol.
Democrats do not want witnesses to answer this question because to compel that testimony would take a while & precludes legislating. And Democrats think they need to prove economic bona fides to voters. So, this is all just about politics, and it's absolutely enraging.
