Of course the images from Kabul in the wake of US withdraw are harrowing to any decent person.

The 20-year US war itself created massive amounts of suffering and death as well. But the images of that remained mostly hidden, and thus never produced the same reaction.
What this highlights is a crucial tactic of the Endless War machine in DC: selective display of horrors.

When the USG wants you to hate a country it wants to attack, they show you all their abuses. Meanwhile, they hide the similar/worse abuses of their allies (Saudi/Egypt).
Any decent person is going to be emotionally affected by images of desperate people clinging to a C-130 to get out of Afghanistan.

But consider how you'd feel about withdraw if forced to see all the people US air strikes killed and hear from their family members.
There is always immense suffering, tyranny and horrors in the world. Propaganda is all about selecting what to show you and what to hide in order to manipulate your decency into emotional reactions.

The US corporate media is key. They can generate pro-war sentiment with ease.
Apply the same principle from the COVID debate: you can't reach meaningful conclusions if you only consider one side of the ledger (costs of COVID) while ignoring the other side (costs of lockdowns, etc.).

Withdraw causes suffering for some but the war itself was horrific.
Both Trump and Biden did something very rare: defied the US military establishment and intelligence community and the corporate press -- which *always* wants more war for reasons Adam Smith explained -- to demand all troops be withdrawn. Both were right, despite these images.
War not only brings excitement to DC elites but also great profit and power: for arms manufacturers who fund both parties, for corporate media outlets, for Pentagon and CIA bureaucrats.

The US wasn't there to "help" Afghans. And the war most certainly didn't help Americans.
I know some are sincere that they favored withdraw but object to "how it was done." But precisely because the US Govt lied -- there was no Afghan Security Forces -- there was no good way to leave. And that's the pretext they use for Endless War: "not now," "not this way," etc.
One last point: virtually every neocon now beloved by liberals because they're anti-Trump didn't hate Trump for the reasons they gave but because they're warmongers and imperialists, angry at Trump's heterodoxies: Liz Cheney, Kinzinger, Kristol, Frum, etc

The reason people like Frum and Kristol and Liz Cheney and the rest of the MSNBC heroes of the GOP hated Trump was because he questioned NATO's value, wanted improved relations with Russia, advocated leaving Afghanistan, etc. That's the ideology with which liberals aligned.
Obviously, Trump wasn't a pacifist. He campaigned in 2016 vowing to *escalate* bombing in the name of anti-terror and did. He used MOAB in Afghanistan.

But he absolutely questioned and spread doubt on key DC orthodoxies about war, imperialism & CIA. *That's* why they hate him.

There was nothing unusual about what the US did in Afghanistan: extinguishing an entire family and then getting friendly NYT & NBC reporters to ratify their lie that they killed terrorists but no civilians - except this time the whole world was watching:

One of the most embarrassing tweets from a major media figure in years, though highly illustrative of how they so often do the propaganda work of the CIA, the Pentagon and other security state agencies: Image
Anyone honest knows what happened: the Biden WH, facing rage over the attack at Kabul Airport that killed 13 Marines, was desperate to do *something* -- anything -- to make Biden look tough, so they wiped out a whole family to avoid a bad news cycle accusing him of weakness.

Neera Tanden is lying here, smearing Politico reporters for violating an off-the-record agreement by publishing Jen Rubin's deranged email.

An "off-the-record *agreement*" requires both sides' consent. People can't unilaterally bar journalists from reporting what they say.
I guess I should acknowledge that it's unclear if Neera is lying as she usually does to exploit the ignorance of her supporters, or herself is just ignorant, but either way, the only way an off-the-record discussion happens is if both sides agree, not by someone proclaiming it.
“His sympathies for the Muslim World take precedence over those, such as they are, for his fellow citizens" -- liberal hero and MSNBC favorite Jen Rubin, on Barack Obama after he supported construction of a mosque near Ground Zero in 2011.

Today's DOJ indictment of a Hillary/DNC lawyer who spread lies as part of Russiagate is a huge deal. And it's absolutely true: the NYT & @charlie_savage this morning -- before anyone could see the indictment -- cast it in the most favorable light possible, as it if were trivial:
Most media outlets mindlessly spread the fraudulent Trump/Alfa-Bank story because they spread anything they were fed without caring. To its credit, the Intercept -- led by @samfbiddle & @lhfang -- pointed out the glaring flaws in the story at the time:

theintercept.com/2016/11/01/her…
It wasn't just Hillary's lawyer who got indicted today, or their media servants, who spread this fraud about Trump's secret server with a Russian bank. Hillary herself endorsed and spread as her lawyer concocted the whole fraud in the first place:

The Special Counsel investigating the various frauds of Russiagate, John Dunham, is about to indict a Perkins Coie lawyer for feeding a fake story about Trump and Alfa Bank to the FBI and media, then lying by denying he represented the Clinton campaign:

nytimes.com/2021/09/15/us/…
The scam that Trump was using a secret server to communicate with a Russian bank was promoted by Hillary herself, and touted by media outlets led by @Slate. Like so much that comprised Russiagate, it was a total fraud concocted by the DNC & media allies:

slate.com/articles/news_…
In sum, a DNC-linked lawyer -- partners with Clinton lawyer @marceelias -- fabricated a Trump/Russia link, fed it to DNC operatives masquerading as journalists, had Hillary trumpet it, then lied to FBI about who he worked for.

Russiagate in a nutshell:

Democratic Party YouTubers trying to dictate to
@NICKIMINAJ what she can and can't say, who she is and isn't permitted to cite, what partisan box she must stay in.

It went poorly for @JoyAnnReid when she tried and I doubt it will go better for these 2 DNC socialist soldiers. ImageImage
The only thing that enrages liberal gatekeepers more than urging people to make their own decisions rather than getting bullied into obedience is refusing to submit to their partisan prison. But since she's who she is, she can say what she wants, making it more dangerous still. Image
In about two years, Twitter and Facebook will just be Chris Hayes, Amy Klobuchar, Jen Rubin and Adam Schiff arguing about whether Nancy Pelsoi is or isn't more awesome than Kamala Harris and everyone else will be banned.

Democratic Officials Continue to Threaten Tech Companies to Censor More

The latest example is one of the most egregious: @SenWarren & Rep. @AdamSchiff demanding Amazon remove or suppress books on COVID:

rumble.com/vmkc0j-democra…
A few points to highlight about the above-linked video report we just published on the attempts by Sen. Warren & Adam Schiff to demand Amazon suppress certain books.

First, this is part of a year-long campaign by Dems to use their majority power in DC to mandate censorship.
There are so many reasons why this attempt by the Democratic Party to commandeer Big Tech censorship power for themselves is so dangerous.

Perhaps the gravest is that this is all about imposing a framework where dissent from or questioning of decrees from authorities is banned.
