I'm a simple man.

When @packyM writes, I read.

This week he dropped a killer piece about story building and narrative formation πŸ““

I'm researching this area myself through the lens of remote team leadership 🏝

Below are my takeaways and commentary πŸ‘‡
"Stories let us coordinate across time and space."

IF people are vectors THEN stories are its compass:
1) ⛳️ Direction = Where to?
2) πŸš€ Magnitude = How to?

A similar principle is used in remote team leadership πŸ‘‡

Helpful language when thinking about story telling:

πŸ“• Story = A stand-alone story/idea
πŸ“š Narrative = The greater whole comprised of many stories

In the context of remote teams:
🦜 Stories = Codes (rules; goals; etc)
πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Narrative = Culture (language; habits; identification)

The idea behind strong narratives is to create leverage πŸ”§

Scale your effort by giving individuals (team members; customers; etc.) a narrative they can participate in.

Decentralization = Scale Image
Since narratives are leveraged they can compound in good and bad directions.

⬇️ Risk: A negatively-compounding narrative (Facebook)
⬆️ Reward: A positively-compounding narrative (Apple)

Try to point the rocket into the right direction before adding Kerosene (= participants) πŸš€
Documentation is the highest-leverage tool because it provides a narrative within which each team member can participate and execute πŸ“’

This is why it's the highest-leverage tool of remote teams.

"Empower your team and get out of the way." Image
