A personalized PR pitch will always be better than a generic email blast.
Here's 1 elegant way to do that:
Do a SparkToro search for "My Audience follows the social account: <your target publication's Twitter handle>"
(You can do this with a free account!)
Then look at the results: Your audience's "Frequently Used Phrases."
Here's an example using NYT Health. You'd see that people who follow them online also tend to publicly talk about "blood pressure," "older adults," and "physical activity."
Then go to Text Insights, then Phrases Used.
In a free SparkToro account you'll get to see 5 phrases total. Include those in your pitch!
Try this template:
"I've been a longtime reader and I noticed that you haven't yet covered <topics>, which your audience is interested in. Here's the data to prove it.
I'm writing to pitch you on <how your product/solution fits in>.
Let me know if you'd like to learn more!"
For one savvy PR leader (and SparkToro customer), this worked. 🤯
