This is the elegant Vera Miles that I'm sure Hitchcock imagined for his films.

Instead, once Miles fell out of favour with Hitchcock, we got a frumpier (but still, of course, beautiful) version in Psycho, 1960. She was only there to fulfill her contract with Hitchcock.

Vera Miles went her own way after Hitchcock. She's one of Five Branded Women in Martin Ritt's 1960 film. Jeanne Moreau, Barbara Bel Geddes, Carla Gravina and Silvana Mangano are the others.
