The only way out of this, is THROUGH IT. That’s usually the bit people wobble at, it can get bleak, tough & they give up. Persistence & resilience is the secret to any objective led success. It will require individual tenacity & belief in the shared goal. No shortcuts. All in. 1/
That doesn’t mean you have to rethink your politics. Think of it like trying to launch a project. I mean this pretty much is the ultimate reality show; The Hunger Games meets The Apprentice. It’s possible to align over a common interest in Aotearoa NZ /2
At various stages of this things will happen to question our faith in the common purpose. It all chips away at nagging thoughts everyone has from time to time. Weeding thru things & analysing what is truth is really fucking hard for everyone /3
It know I’ve questioned lots of things - which is ok, but only useful if it moves us forward & further through. If we remind ALL people of the goal & continuously with transparency. Focus on what’s important (does it impact the goal), ignore the noise & dramatic distractions. /4
Then quickly adjust & make changes which come from learning quickly & listening carefully. Insults get ignored. Intelligent arguments get thru only if they’re smart on their approach. Luck is also a massive fucking factor. It is never around when you wish for it, but turns up /5
when we apply good energy. Well that’s my take. It always takes much longer too. Much much much longer. So that’s when you need to have built up persistence & resilience. Which is thin on the ground for many. But if we all pick up a little bit of the slack for those who can’t /6
Then we might have a chance at this. Everyone won’t align 100%, but we use empathy to assist those who may need some extra reminding & in smart ways about what the value of the goal is. That bit’s hard and usually is the toughest for people. In any biz the people is where the /7
real value resides & an amazing team is super hard to build & retain. Every boss I know tries their best & still gets it wrong at times. But we adjust & keep improving, moving forward learning a little bit each time. The same approach needed when dealing with the mis /8
& disinformed. I worked out that why someone I knew was vaccine headstand was because she has been let down by medical professionals due her lifelong illness. I appreciate that. She needs reassurance not vilification. Not yelling. Gentle & firm. We need her on side. /9
Each of us can be part of this story. And I know this because I’ve built something from nothing before, but it nearly killed me on the way thru. You need to know the value of every part, to understand how can get you to move forward. That’s your challenge. The end /10

Yesterday was emotionally challenging. A number of friends were posting quite a bit of criticism on how the pandemic is being handled in NZ. As is their right to do & from their POV it's just "critical analysis". As someone who has been hugely affected by the virus 1/
at a health level, it's really hard to read. I couldn't work out why I was so upset all day, just in my belly feeling really nauseous and on the verge of tears. PTSD is a really big issue with those who have had Covid and I realised that watching people break away from the /2
"team" approach that has kept us largely safe thus far was upsetting - it felt like the beginning of the unravelling of people's cohesiveness. I worry - sometimes to the point where I can't sleep at night- about friends and whanau getting sick and dying. I've seen it 1st hand /3
